Drag and Drop, Choose what you want and put it in there. Simple easy fast... to coin a phrase a certain CEO loves far too much "it just works and its simple".
Syncing music on iPhone and iPad with iTunes is one of the features I actually like about my Mac. Also the AirPlay feature to send the music wirelessly to various speakers around the house from a hand held device. Even my 4 year old can do that on the iPad (annoyingly sometimes).

My music library is way larger than my iPhone's memory and really don't like browsing through hundreds of albums while on the go. Clicking a few checkboxes for me seems far easier than drag and dropping (this is when I tend to loose files and folders in windows). I also love the fact it is keeping it all organised for me and it is easy to manage various aspects of my music collection.

Could be that it is much smoother on OSX than on Windows. I know how painful iTunes can be on Windows.

Could I use a bit more control? Of course I would like that very much and I had my frustrations with it. In the end I just realised that what I really want is to listen to music and stopped fighting the system.

My Cowon S9 is drag and drop.

However for the Hard of Thinking, there is an OPTION to install their management software.

It also plays plenty of formats so transcode is not normally a problem (h264, ogg, vob)

55 hours of music playback, 11 hours of video and a gorgeous OMLED screen.

Its just the same, a few check boxes and done.

I wander if some of the apple itunes dislikers, have only used the earlier version of itunes and not the later / latest ones. Its definately got a lot slicker.

I just want to synch my music and go. I cant be bothered faffing about with it and itunes makes it easy for me, which leaves me time to go and do something else.

I seriously wander sometimes if people go out of their way to find a flaw or something they dont like to create a problem / situation so that they can then use that to fuel their hatred of a type of software / device.

And you've just discovered Apple's main marketing strategy. If they do it, why shouldn't everybody else?

What you are saying is that it doesn't do what you want, so you changed your expectations accordingly.

I wont root it as its a loan device but I would if I owned it, I enjoy messing around with system files and tinkering and im sure there will be a few things it doesn't do out the box which I would want if I was going to keep it long term.

I think the main problem with Sync is that I have some Dubious music from back in the day when I borrowed from friends and all that So anyway, to get any music player to recognise what it is right I have to go through and rename it all. Its much easier to do this at File level. While im there its as easy to copy and then paste.

The thing again apple slapping again, you can either do it their way or not at all. The beuty of other systems is that you can do it practically any way you can imagine. There is no fighting the system, only using it how it suits you.

Surely once your music is on there there is little worry with ticking boxes? Only work would be to remove or add stuff, which isnt that difficult. But if you are happy doing it that way then cool!

Completely on a tangent here but; anyone else get annoyed with Compilation albums? You add them and your Artists list in your player (computer/mp3/etc) goes mental. Most of them having one or two songs from the odd album... Bah.

I certainly dont go out of my way... I just like things to work for me, not the other way around. There are many things I see wrong with Apple Sync ill list them, if none annoy you then id be AMAZED. Cant sync with anyones music library, Cant pull files back off of the phone, so if you delete or lose anything from your computer you cant pull it back from the i device as a kinda backup, You have to use itunes, you cant undate or even start using your phone without itunes. Again this is obviously my views, but I see all of the above as bull**** for the sake of it. There is no doubt that Apple could give you much more freedom! Why dont they? Im not sure... other than Steve dont like it.

Yep I wouldn't go apple just for an Audio player, but I can see why some people do.

I admit it that it frustrated me a lot, having to do things the Apple way, especially with so many year on Windows where you can do the same thing 100 ways to virtually the same result.

But then I realised that I don't need 100 ways of achieving the same thing which is to listen to music. I just want to listen to music. I decided to give a try to whatever way Apple was offering. It turns out is is probably the most efficient and organised way of doing it with loads of features I really enjoy.

I might add that I couldn't find anything remotely similar for Windows especially with the ability to stream digital audio over WiFi.
