The Guardian rounded i up nicely with

Quote:
90 min: Another red card! But... Graham Poll, who is a stupid *******, is not getting the final, we can tell you that for nothing. After fouling Kennedy, Simunic is booked for a second time. He walks... then comes back when he realises Poll isn't going to show red. Ho ho hoh dear.
Ha ha ha, Graham Poll is a complete clown.
Succinct and to the point. Solid coverage at the Guardian.

very good game, croatia v aussie. not the most technical granted but in the drawling words of alan hansen "it had everything. goals, saves, incidents, sendings off" (you can hear him saying it can't you?!) but very exciting.

graham poll? oh dear. he was doing so well up til then, i'd have said he had a chance of getting more games until his last mad few moments!! the other games he's reffereed he's been pretty good in upholding the FIFA directive without taking it too far

Not the tidiest game around but happy with the result! Not happy about the Croatian player getting 3 yellows before being sent though. The whole refereeing team needs a keel-haul for that one.

A side issue here,

Japan were an absolute delight to watch, particularly in the first half when they had decided on a hight tempo game in order to unsettle Brazil.

They passed the ball crisply, all players were comfortable on the ball and they all had bags of energy. (If you have not seen their goal yet, watch out for it, if it had been Brazil or Argentina you would be seeing it replayed every 5 minutes)

But what was a pleasure to see was their discipline, no arguing, no play acting just totally honest athletes doing their best to play within the laws of the game. They really were a pleasure to watch. This was made more evident when later sitting to watch a full replay of the Aussie vs Croatia game. Some of the antics used by Croatia were a disgrace.

Well, Graham "me, me, ME, look at ME" Poll certainly got his daily ambition of getting noticed well and truly sorted last night. Typically inept display. Glad he's screwed his own chances up.

Not that I hold grudges, you understand.
