Re: 1 man tent
FWIW: You'll probably want a tent that has a front vestibule so that you don't get your muddy boots all over your tent inner. Get a 2-man tent as opposed to a one manner. You'll need space for your kit as well as yourself.
I picked a £40 one from Millets. As Millets isn't exactly renowned for the *best* stuff I also popped down the hardware store to get some waterproofing solution. |

Re: 1 man tent
If its ease your after with minimum space, have you thought about a bivi bag?
I used mine on 3 ten tors expeds and never got wet ( miracle for dartmoor). Rolls up really small and you can get yourself and kit in one. |

Re: 1 man tent
I've got a gelert fossa too.
It's perfect for strapping on the bike or even in my little rucky with the sleeping bag and a change of clothes. It packs down seriously small. Once set up, it's hard to see how anyone could fit/sleep in it but I manage and I'm 5'11". I used it at the GM last year and got quite a few comments. Anyone got pics of the campsite or the bike packed up? It's got a small vestibule, but big enough to get your boots into. Inside it's slept two of us (once, and once only sez amanda! lol), but for me it's plenty big enough for stashing the rest of my gear in. I've used it loads so it's sturdy enough longterm I'd say. |

Re: 1 man tent
Good point about a bivi bag. I got a gore tex hooped bivi that will do fine for the limited space trips. I have a 3 man tent for longer trips away but theres the odd overnighter where I dont need thrills and luxuries. To be honest I plan getting so drunk I may not find the tent let alone worry about whether it has luxuries.
Cheers for advice. |

Re: 1 man tent
I have something similar, but a claimed "two man" version weighing a shade under 2KG. Similar size packed away to that one. I have once slept me and the gf in it in a double sleeping bag, but no way you'd get two big hetero blokes in there.
It's better for hiking than biking TBH. On a bike, within reason weight isn't too much of a big deal, it's more about less bulk. This is the reason I take a camping bed (which packs to the same size as a roll matt) on the bike, but not on foot. You can sleep in them on your own okay, but you can't really cook in them and fitting your bike kit in can be a real problem. When staying in it, I have put kit in luggage on the bike and just had me in there, but unless you have waterproof luggage/bag everything, that can be a problem. I will probably get a smallish 3 man for AR09. A decent porch with groundsheet is a must for getting changed out of bike gear in, if it's raining. |
