I would never ride a 'ped.
All the "cool kids" at school got them when they turned 16, which was enough of an offput- they'd buzz up and down the roads by the school showing off.. I waited til i was 17 and got a proper bike

A load of the kids meet up next door on friday nights, and i've seen them riding about the village. They're ****ing mental..

Though to be fair, there are a good few 'ped riders that aren't maniacs. They tend not to be a few days past their 16th birthday though.

Where I did my CBT, I had an amazing instructor. He was telling me about most kids my age doing it, he has a lot of them come back for a second day in order to pass. Odd they don't just fail someone?

I think a lot of what comes out of the CBT is the instructor. If you have someone who instills confidence, clearly knows what he's on about, and is good fun, you're going to go away a decent rider.

Nearly hit it - should have tried harder...

I had a guy on a ZX6R attempt to pull an overtake after me and the car in front had pulled to the centre of the road (single carriageway) and the car in front was indicating to turn right. Was only when I put my indicator on that he got the message and backed off. Don't overtake cars when there's a right turn coming up, folks, indicators on the cars or not.

Then saw a European rider on a (sigh) BMW overtakig on blind bends and nearly lunching himself on the car in front / oncoming traffic and he kept on goiung like that was all normal and to be expected as part of his fun ride.

Let's face it, some bikers/scooter riders put themselves in a position where they're going to get knocked off (OK, ALL scooter riders). Take care out there folks - keep clear of those blind spots, especially with this cold damp weather.

I hold my hands up when I make a istake like that, and thank my lucky stars that it wasnt a bigger mistake. Hoever, it does get me into a right state of anger when someone dosnt indicate. This evening, a guy in a car went to pull out into my lane, got halfway over and I thought "he hasnt seen me". Sounded my horn. Well, he didnt like me letting him know I was there, where he wanted to put his car, and promptly chased me. This scared me quite a bit, so much so that I pulled out all my riding skills to filter through the next traffic to loose him, I didnt want to get into a position where he might jump out of his car and beat me up, for his mistake.

So you are right for being angry at the moped rider - he should be looking more, and paying more attention to the cars he is overtaking - I dont overtake cars by a junction that is on the right hand side (unless I completly dont notice, in which case I am at great fault and putting myself in danger). I hope I'm right for being angry at the car driver, who didnt signal and wanted to occupy the road that I was using.

A lad across the road from us is bike daft. I've had himm on the back of me a couple of times, and even took him camping at teh GP and some BSB meets.

He turned 16 earlier this year and promptly got himself a twist n go and the CBT.

He wrote it off after about 10 days. Totally admits it's his fault.

He even admits that despite all the talkings to by me and mate (both and pretty experienced riders to boot), giving him as much roadcraft as we could verbally and taking him out for a "progressive" ride where we talked through an extensive de-brief, he still though that the scoot made him like the old cartoon character BATFINK.

"MY WINGS (SCOOTER) ARE LIKE A SHIELD OF STEEL".

Going around a very narrow right hander, with no white lines, he openly admits that he took a racing line (if you can get one of those on a scoot), and went head on with a cage.

What defies total logic is that a kid with absolutely no road sense what so ever is allowed out on public highways once they've done a day proving that they won't fall off weaving in/out of cones.

I hate the young boy/girl racers, but they have at least undergone some driving lessons and a test to get out there. Spotty faced 'erberts can do it aged 16yrs & 1 day - no test.

Hah, assuming he did jump out of his car and not knock you off your bike, he'd have to be a proper idiot to take someone on wearing full body armour Glad you got out of it ok though. I'd have to get off for a few minutes for some air.. would be seething if someone chased me.

The old woman in my town who rides a C90 in a dress(!), women's shoes and lid needs a good knocking off to get some sense into her. Can't ride for toffee, tesco bags of shopping hanging off the bars. I've nearly had her off twice in my car. She glowered at me as though it wass somehow my fault she came waaay over the centreline into my lane in a manner that'd have a weekend worrier ZX-10R rider green with envy.
