Check under the clutch lever. There is a small electrical wire that clips on underneath, it senses the clutch lever being pulled in and won't work if it ain't connected (you have to pull the clutch lever in to start SV's)
Check the side stand. There is a push switch down there that the side stand engages when down, this is to prevent you from riding off with the stand down. If the Honda dealer didn't clean this area before 'over greasing' it it can cause the switch to stick. Make sure its in Neutral If the battery. Charge it with an Optimate, these help recover worn batterys and will keep you going for a while as you wait for your new battery to arrive. To get to the battery you will see two allen head bolts either side of the riders seat on the black side panel. Undo these. You may find a plastic clip holding it on underneath, push the centre of these to release. Pull the black side panels firmly downwards. When the panles are off you will need to look in the opening and you will see a large silver allen head bolt (6mm hex I think), there is one on each side. You will see that this holds a large plastic tab/bracket in place (thats the bottom of the seat). Remove both allen head bolts and lift the front of the seat up an inch and then up and forward. The battery is under the fuse box tray, which lifts up as one piece. Good luck |

gettin2dizzy, didnt buy from hunts. mine is the red one in my avatar - from Wyder (Honda) in Preston. the pic does not do it justice - it is mint, like it just came out of the crate, except for the fact that it wont start.
Dangerous Dave, i will try all of the things you have suggested & let you know later. many thanks for you assistance. Alan |

Dangerous Dave, i checked the wire under the clutch lever - seems to be fitted correctly. checked the 'kill switch' on the side stand - again seems fine.
i have given my battery to a mate who has an optimate, so its on charge until tomorrow night. when i get it back hopefully it will keep a charge, otherwise its a new battery. i called the dealer today & told him what had happened & was quite suprised when he said they would pay for a new battery - fingers crossed he will comw good. i will post again when i have more to report Alan |
