Learning how to turn your fuel on is a sight different from knowing whether reserve is an extended pickup fuel tap or 2 seperate tanks.

Yup. During training i used a CG125 and then CB500, both of which have a reserve tap. On day one of CBT the instructor showed us the tap and said anyone know what its for. Two of the lads i was with piped up that it was for a seperate reserve fuel tank, not knowing it was just a lower pipe on the main tank so its not a stupid thing for Plowsie to assume.

'Bikes are nowadays well shot of the petrol-tap. A real feckin nightmare.
Fill up, reset your trip (gives you a rough idea on the clocks when your bikes is going to start spluttering i.e. needing turned onto reserve.) race about for 100 odd miles , usually go for an overtake on a big ol'artic and .....splutaa, splutaa , I'm going to have a head on!.......pull back in again, turn reserve tap(unless you have your heavy winter glove on ,then you need to get the glove off by sitting on your hand ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

You've a point there, albeit a small one as its so bike specific, some bikes have seperate tanks, some have a tap, some are electric, some vacuum, can't expect CBT to give a course in fuel systems too.
I still don't like your attitude though, been here 2 minutes and already managed to slag off half the membership. Chill out will ya.

Not really at all no. I went on 2 CBT's. When they were 3 year (couldn't afford license, and too young to bother with Limited). They never showed me the reserve tap. I went on another one as my previous CBT ran out (leading up to my test). Funny enough, different test center (both known in the area as being good), and again wasn't told. Then I had to do some basic lessons to learn "official" roadcraft, and never got told then either. The only fact I know about reserve switches is because my old man has been a vivid biker since i was born and got into racing. You pick things up as a kid. Otherwise, I'd be none the wiser at all. What do they say about assumptions............... ![]() PS, read the post, your attitude to other people on here stinks. Go find a chav site if you wish to act like that towards members looking for help. This is a nice site, we don't need attitudes like that. |

Easiest just to ignore some people and they get fed-up and go away rather than fuel the situation by retorting
