I am actually really surprised it hasn't been outlawed by now ...

I bet a large portion of the competitors feel the same way, just the sort of thing that the safety brigade would be appalled by.
So it doesn't come as a real surprise to me that "normal" accidents are relatively few at these races. The guys obviously try to win, though not to the extent which they might on a "safe" circuit, they know it's more dangerous. But, I also think it's very likely that the future of the event is covered at the riders' briefings for these things - "don't do anything stupid or we might not be back next year, and you definitely won't be". I don't pretend to know the numbers, but I wouldn't be surprised if (statistically) circuit racing is more dangerous than road racing. I stand to be corrected, though.

I also was there, at metropol corner .... it is a superb weekend, and I would recommend it to you!

Not only is the racing fab but the atmosphere matches it. Got my ferry and B&B booked for this year, am very excited! The coast road ride up there is just beautiful, but take care of the numb nuts that think they should be on the race track!!

What is the matter with watching it on the telly*?

You get to see the whole lap and know exactly what is going on!!!

*I have been to a few pro races (BSB WSB - not TT NW200 etc) and felt both times I would have been better off in my armchair at home with a nice glass of lemonade with ice!! - I'd have seen more, been in more comfort and saved a small fortune in time and money!!! and before you say it, I don't think sitting for hours in traffic trying to get in and out of carparks etc, then sitting in amongst 1000s of loud-mouth sunburned lobsters boozing and smoking and generally getting in my way counts as 'atmosphere'!!

You do have a point ... I actually feel the same about wsb and motogp when at Donnington. You see f'all and are surrounded by noobs that want to get pi$$ed!

And, at that particular NW200 we were hanging around alot waiting for the race to restart/reach us!

But, the roads over there are lovely, and as luck would have it the weather was grand! I feel that the people at meets like NW200 are proper into their bikes, and gone to some effort to get there ..... oh did I mention that it was free to watch the racing

Yeah, I pre-empted the normal 'atmosphere' line most would take at that point

I guess if you look at it as a mini holiday with the added bonus of seeing some racing then it makes more sense ...

I must admit I didn't realise it was 'free' to watch ... I suppose it'd a be hard to implement, but in this day and age ... NOTHING like that is FREE!!! ... Just out of interest - How much is the B&B and the ferry?

Being the impetuous man I am, I might be tempted!!
