Was that a road bike? Reason I ask is that I could like with the DI discs on a summery road bike but as soon as there's salt on the road they became more of a problem, it could be really hard to unlock them in the morning and they were wearing freakishly fast with the lost mass. Performance didn't suffer though.
It was my roadbike and used all year round. I was careful to throw a bucket of cold water over the front end after riding on salty roads after the pad stuck to the disc the first time.

I was using Performance Friction 95 compound pads, which I found really good with huge amounts of feel and initial bite in the dry and didn't require too much heating up before they'd work in the wet. However, braking performance like that doesn't come cheap, the pads were about 115 quid a set at trade prices and they wore at an alarming rate and PFM disc rotors alone were about 250 quid each - I never managed more than 3500 miles from a full set of pads but the discs didn't show any drastic signs of wear after 10,000 miles of use. The discs lasted at least three times longer than the appallingly finished AP Racing ones, which wore badly between rotor and carrier and ended up spitting bobbins out as I was riding.

I didn't have to fork out for the brake conversion, it came already fitted to a low mileage Cat D bike I bought for silly-cheap money. The conversion was around 1500 quid from Harris, I only paid 3000 for the whole bike with a Maxton shock and loads of other trick bits on it with all the standard bits too.

The best bit was, I had it for 18 months, did about 12K miles on it and sold it for a 1200 quid profit. It had been Cat D'd and fully properly rebuilt twice in Northern Ireland, where it was registered, once on the road and the other on the first lap of a trackday. I brought it to the mainland and had to personally import it, which meant filling in forms at the LVLO and having it re-registered to go on Swansea's computer (I got to keep the NI plate though). When I got the reg doc back there was no mention of the guy who I had bought it from, it had lost an owner. After a while I wondered what had happened as far as the HPI listing for it was concerned, so I paid one of my customers a tenner and he ran the plate/VIN through HPI and it came up completely clean, it had lost its HPI classification too.

When I sold it to a mate of mine I was dead honest about the number of owners and the previous HPI classifications, but he wasn't the slightest bit bothered, he just paid top dollar and rode away. Since then it's been subject to another insurance rebuild when it got knocked over by a 4x4.

I'm not a fan of the EBC discs, but I do rate their pads. I had a set of EBC discs come with parts for my GSXR front end conversion and they were terrible in the wet. I am now running with Braking wave discs front and rear and they are great compared to the EBC's discs. There isn't much between the OEM and Braking in my opinion, only in weight.
