France did play terribly. The forward play was slow and tedious and the backs really offered nothing. It was a really poor performance all around. Ever since Ibanez, Pelous, Magne, Betsen retired our forwards have been inexperienced and a bit lightweight. When you consider all the new players that have joined the squad and the wholesale changes Lievremont made game on game, its no surprise that we didn't have a good tournament. France have an obvious long term strategy and are building towards the next world cup. France did lose as they were appalling, not because Wales were especially good. This is summed up by the Shane Williams knock on/interception try that decided the game. I think there is definitely a case that England threw away their game versus Wales. I also stand by what i said previously. At the next world cup i think only England/France will be in with a chance from the southern hemisphere. |

I was there too!!!
But I was working there. Saw some of the game from a box - That was exciting. The rest of my time was sent in a cellar... working |

We WON you LOST! I'm pleased to say the French fans sharing the stand with us were much more philosophic in defeat, as were the ones being the beers in the bar.

I'm not disputing the validity of the Williams try, so i'm not sure why you've brought that up! I have no problems with the result. If a team plays that terribly then they deserve nothing from a game! I'm disappointed in the performance of France, but i'm in no way sour. I still fail to understand whats bitter about what i posted. |

I think what the lads are trying to point out, maybe not about you, but other teams supporters in general.. is that there has been huge sour grapes by England, and Ireland, and now some French fans about us wining... the only ones not to complain so far have been the scotts and Italians.. as the Italians got thrashed by us.... and the scotts should have been thrashed by us...
there have been fans of the above teams who will go blue in the face before admitting the best team won... Irish fans are addamant that they should have won, and so England and some French... now, I hate to point it out, but Wales have just set a record of least amount of tries conceded in a tournament... plus like it or not, you can only play as good as the opposing team lets you.. and lets face it, Wales' defence has been by far the best this tournament.. maybe Wales just made France look ordinary with their defence ? didnt help the french were clueless up front, but even when they tried to play their running game it was nipped in the bud with some great tackles... If France, England or Ireland had won the championship, we wouldnt be hearing the moaning thats been going on the past few weeks.. others complaining about teams being in transition, trying out new combinations... well, Wales had a new Coach, all the other teams bar France have established coaches in charge... Wales performed the worst at the World Cup, bar Ireland..... now 6 months down the road... whos standing where ? Its a sore subject for us, as every time Wales do anything of any good... there are those who just like to say it was a bad championship... well, if Wales really were that mediocre, it doesnt say much about the opposition we have come accross so far this year does it ? We have always had a team that can score against the best sides in the World... now we have a rock solid defence... in two years time, this Wales team will be going places.... everything starts somewhere... even England when at their very best only could win 1 Grand Slam.. why ? as by its very nature.. its a damned hard thing to do. Even when Wales and Scotland were crap and Ireland befroe they had O'Driscol, teams still couldnt win Grand slams without a hell of alot of effort..... |

I still don't think that Wales can mount a credible world cup challenge. I wouldn't mind being proven wrong as its nice to see the southern hemisphere teams lose! However i don't think they can play much better than they are now and thats probably not enough to beat a southern hemisphere team, with any consistency.
Gatland is a great coach(i've been a wasps regular for 8 years), but he's always been a bit of a nomad. I guarantee he won't be in the job in 2 years time. The tri-nations is a far superior tournament and its always been the case that even grand slam winners usually get thumped when they play the southern 3. Look at the lions, supposedly Britains best and they get drubbed regularly. Finally i'm not complaining about Frances loss to Wales. We would have lost against Portugal playing like that. ![]() |

WC is what, 3 and a half years away? gatlands with wales on a four year contract with a team that he can chop and change at his will... and it worked.
this year is the best iv seen wales play in a long time, 2005 GS could have put down to luck but (coz i cant remember that far back) with the WRU gettin rid of mike ruddock we will never know how good that team could have been under him. possible WC semi's...? it takes a lot to get a grand slam, irrelivant to how the other teams play, you still have to win 5games, aint that easy. personally i didnt think wales would have done it after last years WC n 6nations,even i was shocked but then i didnt wear my welsh top on any of their matches this year so thats how they won ![]() as for england they have always been a good side with the likes of robinson and daglaglilio or what ever he's called but without the ppl to replace they wont be much of a force. as for vainakoulu (?) ok he's a big boy but he didnt do much after they hyped him up. this years championship was a good one, lets have the glory days back for a while then england can take over....maybe you may have wilkinson but we have williams ![]() (if any of that makes sense please let me know coz from what i know about rugger you could put on a stamp) |
