I took the 33bhp route, becasue I was a little intimidated by having a full power SV with such pants throttle control and such completle lack of understanding on how to properly control a motorcycle.

2 years on (nearly) from passing my test and riding my 33 bhp SV, and I'm now in the position to say "yes, i'm ready for more power!"

I'm glad I went this route, I think its made me a safer rider as I've had a gentler introduction to riding a big motorcycle than if i went the DAS route, and had not had to be scared of the power (ok, its only 66-70 hp on an SV, but thats still enough to have a biggie with!). I've been able to soley concentrate on how to navigate corners properly and how to understand what the bike is doing underneath me.

But its up to you. Try with the DAS bikes, if you dont like the bigger bikes then ask to continue trianing on the 125's and go the 33 bhp route

Matt

Do full licence asap. It is your head which makes you crash, not the bike. Just be calm and sensible and you will be fine.

There's nothing to say you can't restrict a bike if you do DAS. That way you have some freedom of choice in the matter. As for scared of power, don't be wet it's only as fast as you open the throttle.

If you can handle the slight increase in weight of a GS500 or whatever, then do DAS!

ASH I presume you're derestricting your bike when the 2 years is up? Surely then you're just presuming "big brother knows best" rather than making a conscious decision about it.

Lol indeed.

What was the reason you didn't do DAS then? Scared of the throbbing might of a GS500E?

If i was able to do a full bike license at 17 i would have, but a restricted one was great and the most sensible way for me. It helped me learn the ropes and kept me from having too many brown trouser moments. Being a young adult i think its helped me to mature as a road user rather than going out on a full power bike a causing an injury to myself or other road users.

The restriction is what held me back and i think without it i might have pushed myself over the edge, now i know how and when to use the power, which is good as i now have 110bhp to keep under control.

As you are probably a more mature road user as it is i would do the DAS, you probably know how far you can push yourself i
don't think you doing a 33bhp license is going to make you a better rider.

I totally disagree with this. Most of the nutjob power rangers in gimp suits who couldn't be trusted on a C90 are older, middle class and affluent.

Do DAS... but don't think being older means you know what you're doing! Power is nothing to be scared of, just show a little respect.

I was taking it for granted that he is mature and not a knob faced knobster, i don't like to make asumptions that all people are pratts!! The only person that really knows if he could handle a full powered sports bike is the man himself, but by the time you've had a few years on the road you should be able to understand that by @rseing about on public roads can and will cause injury or death. If you don't understand that then i don't have any time for people like that. Sorry for not asuming he's a ****!!!

I was just having my usual rant about assumptions that all young riders are headbanging nutters
