If you have a locker at work could you not buy a chain for work and a chain for home?!

I know this is added expense but would save you having to worry about transporting the chain in your bike/ back pack.

Unlikely that locker will be close to bike so wouldn't want to return to locker after taking off bike in the evening, & returning to bike after retrieving chain from locker in the morning.

It would be a real PITA to leave it in work, when leaving I would have to go out and take the chain off, then go back inside and plonk it back in my locker. I finish after the store closes as well on both days, so it would be even more awkward to get back into the building as they lock the doors after employees leave. Plus if I can help it I dont really want to be shelling out twice for chains.... I have already spent a fortune on bike gear and I dont even have a bike yet!

Maybe this could be the answer to carrying a decent sized chain and lock though:

Evening mate. Get the SV! I managed to squeeze a large Oxford hardcore lock and chain under my K4 pointy seat and that was with the alarm box under there too

Search in my gsx-r front end conversion thread. Think there may be a pic or 2 of my autocom or just the rear end being stripped and rebuilt.

I would check to make sure but I'm on a REALLY SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOW connection!

Was looking at getting maybe a 1.5m Almax chain with squire or Cisa lock. Had a good hunt through all the information about chains last night, and it seems pretty much all the 13mm and below chains can be chopped easily with the 42" record bolt cutters. Even the big Oxford, Squire, Kryptonite and ABUS chains were able to be cut with this. Seems the Almax series 3 and 4 are the only chains which can prevent a large cutter like this from sheering a link.

Do you think the 1.5m length of Almax Series 3 will be sufficient to wrap around posts/lamposts when I'm out and about and taking the bike to work? Also, would that length of 16mm chain actually get in the underseat storage/motrax chain carrier I wonder?
