thing is, accidents happen. You could cop for it crossing the road, or sitting in a tailback on the motorway in your car, or any number of reasons.

Do your test, pass it and ride carefully, take your time for a while. My little accident put me in critical care, and it was touch and go for a while due to internal bleeding. HOwever, my accident was entirely my fault, caused through a lack of experience, snatching at the front brake, too much speed in the wrong place on a damp road with a worn out front tyre. I slid into a car, which was unfortunate. Had I just slid down the road I would have been unhurt due to good clothing, as it happens, i was badly hurt, but the good clothing and helmet saved my life.

I have been out of hospital for about 2 weeks now, and I have already got about 90% of the bits to fix the bike. As soon as my leg is fixed, i'm getting back on. Because I love teh bike, and the feeling of freedom and exhilaration from riding.

It took me 16 months to get back onto a bike, 10 to walk (although with a bad limp). I am taking a two week holiday from riding at the moment, no particular reason...

No matter what you do you can have an accident, you can't wrap yourself in cotton wool, you need to enjoy life.

Had to have muscles sewn back together and months of operations to repair some of the nerves.
