Many years ago, I was given a producer. got home and feck me I couldn't find my licence. so produced MOT and insurance and sent off for a duplicate licence.

4 months later I was summons for failing to produce. the summons actually stated "On further investigation it was established that Mr Wilkinson did hold a full licence" Still my offence was not driving without a licence but failing to produce it. £25 fine.

Why the hassle of a producer, a 30 second check at the side of the road. would have ensured you were insured/mot'd and licenced. that is why the PNC and DVLA computers are linked. But for some reason the boys in blue with tits on their heads like to generate paper and then moan about the forms they then have to fill in.

I tried to argue that there was no need to produce documents so it was an administrative offence and not worthy of being persued before a court. But magistrates seem to like their power and decided I had commited an offence worth persuing.

I thought lightning never struck the same place twice but this very same thing happened to me about 20 years ago.

I was stopped for speeding - doing 60 in a 40 - and got a producer as well as a speeding ticket. Anyways I did produce my licence and then some weeks later I was summonsed for failure to produce and for speeding. I wrote the stroppiest letter I dared write to the Chief Superintendent and told them that it was outrageous that I should be prosecuted because of their crap systems and that unless they pulled it I would attend the court and tell the mags what had happened and ask for the case to be dismissed and for the police to pay my costs.

The next I knew, they withdrew the lot, speeding included

mcn - might be crap but could be worth writing to them maybe? That steve farrell bloke hates brunstrom who is a police office, and therefore (because he's an intelligent journalist) he will hate all police officers & maybe do a piece on it?

Maye a little common sense wouldn't go a miss here. Even a simple reminder would have aroused a suspition that something was wrong but to go staright o a court summons. ONE WORD JOKE!

Sorry to hear about this - what a crock of **** - but are you sure you are on the 2 year rule? you say you drive HGV/LGV and car - how long have you had those licences - I was told when I took my bike test that because I had held a car licence for many years that I was not on the 2 year rule (I never did really look into it properly though) - worth checking out? I hope they get it sorted so that you dont have to go to court.

I believe the 2 year new drivers act thing affects the first 2 years on the road on whatever license. E.g if you have bike license for 2 years, then pass another category you aren't subject to the 6 point ban thing again.

Yes the 6 points/2 year rule only applies to your first full licence, so if you already had a full licence for another category (ie: car) then took your bike test the rule doesn't apply. (provided you had the car licence for more than 2 years.

As for the comments about producers the police have only had access to the DVLA records on line for the last few years, so "years ago" they would not have been able to check at the roadside.

+ 1 absolutley Lozzo they are useless. They are known around here as plastic cops, waste of tax payers money, who cannot even arrest people, just walk around in their wannabe cops uniform. I had first hand experience of several PCSO's who couldn't handle my paper work and couldn't even get it sent back to the right station. What should have been back within a week ended up taking four weeks and passed through the hands of FOUR PCSO's in Wiltshire ....GRRR!!
