The calls can be easily traced, every call i/c and o/g is itemised within the VPN when the call connects, which would include any call to the hotel. maybe not to the direct extn no but to the main number. It is also traceable at the hotel too as soon as the call connects...

I think this was outragous behaviour and should be illegal if it isnt already. As Neio said we would not tolerate it if he had been refused because he was black.
What we need is anti discrimination legislation which is not specific to race sex or whatever, but presumes all discrimination illegal unless there can be shown a bloody good reason for it.

+1 absolutely!!!!!!!!!!

When I was a squadette, I went out with quite a few of my friends to a bar in the Midlands one Thursday evening. We were not causing any trouble or being loud and obnoxious when someone decided in their infinite wisdom to CS Gas us all in there. It was absolutely disgusting behaviour we were extremely shocked. Luckily we knew how to help those who were more badly affected, especially those who had it straight in their eyes.

It was totally unwarranted and outrageous just like this squaddie being turned away...for being a squaddie

As good an idea as that may be, how would you legislate the last part? And then enforce? The hotel should still have the right not to rent out their room, as it's their service to sell.

You are right there will be certain tags to identify the route it took. But certain secret systems will make it hard to trace past the point where it enters or leaves our VPN from the PSTN.

Yes, true but we don't know all the facts yet and if they have had a bad experience with squaddies before it doesn't give them the right to 'tar every squaddie with the same brush' which unfortunately is what most people seem to do. They forget the good that squaddies do for their country not just abroad but at home too

If a hotel had a problem with some black people causing trouble it would be illegal for them to "refuse to sell their services" to other black people as a result. There is no difference here, except most people are not protected from discrimination by law, only specific groups like black people, gays, religeous groups or whatever. The onus should be on those who discriminate to justify it.
