right, this is the major damage
![]() just above the broken off bit of the magnio cover you can see the wires going to the magnito, these are the wires that got severed. ![]() To get the magnito cover off, the connection to the magntio had to be found, it was under the seat unit. This took alot longer to take off than expected becasue we couldnt figure out why the haynes didnt tell us how to get off the tail section properly. The answer, non standard undertray! ![]() The rear wheel was taken off to change the sprocket. There is slight scratching on the sprocket carrier, but nothing major. ![]() Got the magnito cover off, and found the magnito... not that it was hiding or anything. ![]() The bike with no cover.. At this point I was really starting to feel sorry for my bike, all in bits and that ![]() ![]() Heres a close up of the severed magnito loom wires ![]() Alot of scrubbing to get scott oiler lube off ![]() Cutting down the wires so they can be soldered ![]() Bit of soldering action ![]() Add abit of heat shrink wrap ![]() Solder the wires back together ![]() done! nicly soldered and back to a working state! ![]() heat the heat wrap, looking nice! ![]() Add the bigger heat wrap to complete the look! perfect! Repairing this took about 3 hours, very fiddily. But saved a packet, im sure if I took it to a dealer they would have just ordered a new magnito! ![]() ![]() Next step is to replace the clutch push rod, which was sheared right off and finish doing the sprockets and get the new chain on. Still waiting on the parts so cant really do anything more untill the bits and bobs arive. Big thanks to my uncle who did the soldering and the technical bits! |

Lol could have told you you'd severed the crank position sensor wires that control the spark
![]() Have you got a side casing yet? Have a spare curvy one here.

Good good. See if you had 4 spare engines this wouldn't have been a problem

I think in future, when wondering "why doesn't my bike start" your first point of call should be "Have I just cut any wires in half? If so, what do they do
![]() I had a very similiar lucky escape when i (incredibly stupidly) tried to make my chain last just one more week... Mine just destroyed my nice aluminium chainguard and ripped a load of powdercoat off the rear wheel, very lucky. Lets not do it again ![]()

thats horriffic really... but worse has happened, I borke my chain and clutch rod at 5 mph just rolling into to some sevices on the M60 about 5 years ago But i was 180 miles from home with no breakdown cover....
good old dads eh... turns out they had rebuilt it without using a oring chain... replaced like for like and it snapped again 1000 miles later.. then I found out it should have ben an oring chain... thats what I get for being green. |
