I for one wouldn't, would you? Not everyone is a thieving gypsy with no respect for other peoples property!!

I certainly wouldn't have even sat on it (I think they took the p1ss a bit there) ... I might have taken a sneaky look under the cover mind

Left in a dark carpark, a moto GP bike, with some trick bits. I know a lot of people would. I wouldn't, cos i've not got the balls and I have respect.

As I said, even sitting on it was out of order (in my book) .. my mummy taught me 'Don't touch what you can't afford*' ... .. . I think a MotoGP bike comes under that bracket for most ppl!!

*actually referring to stuff in a shop ... but it is still apt here

I would have said it was a non-runner mock up, no engine internals and made from all the left overs in the crash bin. For a start why would Yamaha keep this bike on the show tour, like Honda the original will be in the factory museum and all the others are no doubt destroyed.

I too would have had a sneaky peak under the covers, I wouldn't of sat on it though, not with out any permission. After all you wouldn't want some snotty/spotty young 125 rider to be sitting on your SV when you get back to the bike part would you?

More often than not the parts are handed down to a lower team the year or Two after and the main part of the bike usually ends up in the factory Museum . These bikes are Multi-Million pound development machines in a constant state of flux in a fickle market . They would want to get as much profit out of them in terms of racing . So `A` teams get a year or so use out of them and then `B`teams may get the cast offs . Some teams have an `A` bike for a couple of years to keep as a backup and comparison to this year`s bike . After that it wouldn`t matter who saw it as everybody would have moved on to the next big thing . They run more of a chance of their suppliers giving any advantage away such as Ohlins or Termignoni . At one point Ohlins used to be owned by Yamaha so they could probably trust them not to give too much away . But I wouldn`t fancy having pipes made by Termignoni with Ducati having a massive stake in the company and possible access to the Data logs .

In my opinion that bike is more than likely what is left over of the external shell , There is probably nothing of any use whatsoever inside the engine/suspension/electronics . Still , a nice little find for those guys but as they always seem to say , if it appears too good to be true , it is .

Some parts even go back to the supplier (Ohlins, Brembo, etc.) if they are not used on something else, not all parts are bought out right by teams.

Shamelessly ripped from another forum - this may provide some explanation;

'The story is true, because the Fiat 500 which towed Rossi's M1 was driven from New York to Indianapolis by a famous Italian DJ
(a fiend of Valentino's)and a writer from GQ Italy (Rossi supervised an entire issue last year and wrote a couple of articles, like he does occasionally for Rolling Stone Italy) to promote the Indianapolis GP event for a national radio station and get a couple of good articles for the magazine.'

I parked my SV next to our bike club's gazeebo type stand at the Bedford River Festival a couple of months ago. A little while later I saw my bike being dwarfed by this enormous black guy who looked like he'd been lifted straight out of Downtown LA, with all the gold chains, gold teeth and an entourage of about 15 similarly dressed humungous black guys with him. I was concerned that his chains were going to scratch the paintwork, so calmly walked over and said "I don't mind people sitting on my bike if they ask first, but as you're already there can you please mind your chains don't scratch my paintwork". He couldn't have been more apologetic, he'd thought my bike was part of the static display of bikes we'd borrowed from local dealers for people to sit on and try out. His mates were ribbing him for being put in his place by the skinny little white guy too.
