As far as I'm aware it's limited to the manufacture of new plates. It may mean a crack down on the road, but I'd be surprised if its significant as that side of things isn't changing from today.

I imagine new bikes, i.e. post 58 plate will be targeted more if they have a small plate, as they would have bought it after the law takes effect. Who knows...

its all to do with the cameras that read plates in petrol stations and on motorways, smaller show plates cannot be read by the machines so the police cant track a stolen car as easily.

The only reason for a crackdown will be for a few more fines, i see private plates on loads of cars coming through work and some of them are ridiculous but if its on a range rover or something the seldom bother with it.
