There's loads of reasons they need to be taken off, both me and my wife's lol! Showering's not so easy with them on, can't work on the bike/car with it on in case it gets damaged, etc..

Aye it is, me and Becks have been together for over eight years now. We haven't really discussed, or even had it brought up, before about getting married. It will also act as an insurance policy for her following recent events down here, she is not overall happy with my return to work but she is fully supportive.

Apparently she wasn't very happy when she discovered what the gift had been made from.

Ah, I won't wear one other than the day.

Thanks for all the advice.

good luck with it all. I got my wedding ring and my ex's made into a bangle (with some other broken gold jewellery I had lying about) as a divorce present for me.

Hmm ok then, just most folks I know keep theirs on. Obviously people do stuff differently nowadays.

A set of vernier calipers (warmed to 30 degrees so the cold metal doesn`t wake her up) and measure with a light squeeze over the knuckle of that finger that should be good enough . You can then lock it in place and take it to a Jewellers and offer it up to the required ring

Drew used the help of my mum with her getting me to try on her rings and see if any fitted me as mum was going on that i never had any jewellery on but a necklace. It was using my right hand as well which turned out to by a ring size up to my left hand. (if that helps)

To answer Miss YC- i only take my engagement ring off to shower, and when i do take it off i can feel it not there and start panicing so have to keep it in my sight lol (it is also as it is a family ring and think i may get in trobule if i lost it)

Aye well that's understandable, its just I was always under the impression engagement/wedding rings were a sort of permanent fixture, a sort of symbolistic bond between you and your partner, maybe I'm just old-fashioned lol.

Obviously in some professions this isn't always possible for practical reasons and a lot of men can't stand jewelery of any sort.

Your not old fashioned Miss YC.

Becks would take her ring off when at work, she is an A&E Nurse and constantly putting on rubber gloves and stuff. I cannot wear jewelry at work on most duties, but thats not to say I won't carry it with me.

The advice I was given by my sister and my Mum (for some reason they both want me hitched asap ) was to hold my palm up against my girlfriend's when cudling or whatever other romantic reason I can come up with and compare the thickness of our fingers and then get the ring tried on my finger that looked the closest in size.. if that makes any sense...
