I used to grow a beard for winter(for the past 22 years), nothing to do with looks at all, just keeps chin warm, then shave it off for summer.

Stopped shaving it off when it was more grey than anything else, I don't like all the faffing about so it's kept between 3-5mm with clippers, and I shave the edges twice a week, from someone who had to shave twice a day in the Army, that's a fair old saving of labour I can tell you.

Cheers Mark.

You had to shave twice a day?! What's the reasoning behind that then?

Out of interest, does facial hair grow in denser as you get older cause at 26 mine's still too sparse to have a "proper" beard?

Wow, I knew they were keen on presentation but that is harsh

I'm lucky if I fit two shaves in a month, I'd have no chance!

Never had itch problem When it gets big and bushy I look like Santa but it's annoying when it gets hard to keep it out of my mouth when I'm eating - then I go into the garden and give it a No 1, birds are grateful for nesting material and everyone's happy.

I do miss the happy surprise of finding bits of past meals after I'm shorn though.

Swings and roundabouts innit?
