Bike tried a similar trip a year or so - of the three people who left JOG, only one (Simon Hargreaves) made it to LE. Admittedly they were doing the whole thing on 500 quid sheds but it's still a non-trivial exercise. The mate who wrote that article above did a followup for the Bike article as well, not sure if there's a version floating around online.

serious.. I am just off Junction 16 of the M6 in Stoke.. there is a bed and food for a free nights kip here if you need it. ! save a hotel.. nice secure garage .

and I can clean yer bike for ya while you sleep.

maybe other orgers may offer up a spare room and you can plan a route accordingly.
