the best thing you could do......is buy a curvy...lol

Joking aside most folk have thrown the usual mods to you, dunno about taking off the snow shovel and putting on a tail tidy. I have one with and one without. the only use I see for having a tail tidy is flinging muddy water all over the car windscreen behind if its too close
Double bubble screens are a must for long distance mway riding, the standard screen is kack. Fender extenda also so you don't get water in your front plug. Don't replace your standard indicators with minis, as they are made out of some sort of alien plastic that doesn't snap, and they sometimes help prevent more damage to fairings (if you went for an S) if you fall off. Motoslider bungs are a must too

Oh and shares in Autosol to keep your downpipe shiny, a must on an SV

Hello Buckley

I'm from the Winchester area as well,

I did pretty much the same thing you are doing.. CBT..125cc (for about 6 weeks...my missus wasn't happy that I only kept it for that long!)...DAS... then SV650S

I have not regrets about riding and making my mistakes on the 125cc except for the financial cost of it, but I know what you mean by getting overtaken when you can barely push it 55mph. seems like some drivers see the "L" plate as green light to overtake or undertake you at the most dangerous places.

Ive been commuting into Winchester town for the past month on my SV650s and the fairing definitely helps keeping the wind and a bit of the cold off you.

Good luck for your test.

After much consideration, my live and learn lesson will be start at the deep end, bearing my mind that the parents will let me keep a bike in the garage!

I understand what you mean a bout being overtaken strangly, as my instructor gets it into my head, if you have a less powerful bike such as a 125 you've gotta get use to this, and blips past me a few times a night, but its all good fun trying to catch up.

I think going start to a 650 from pretty much lessons on a 125 is a gamble, but I'm fairly confident, and actually incredibly caucious considering what people think of "younger ones", and as you say, we live and learn.
Not a gamble at all there.
i went from 50cc to 650 ( restricted fo coruse ) and your right theres a whole shed load of power compaired to whatever your use to.

But if you dont drive like a lunatic and slowly progress and build your confidence you think how did i ever think this was crazy.
Get your test in soon though as itll get all booked up soon due to the new test coming in.

hello mate and good choice - i went from nothing for about 15 years to the unrestricted SV and loved it. power of the V-Twin was great.

as for extra's - to re-iterate other org'ers. crach bungs, tail tidy, DB Screen are a must, Gel Seat is lovely as well.

A loud Can (i had a scorpion on mine) was a bit bling but i loved it.

just remember to tell your insurance about everything, don't "forget" to tell them as they won't forget to remind you if they need to pay out.....

happy riding !

Cheers for the replies guys, you all seem like a sound bunch of people!

I really like the look of spokeys unfaired SV650, so fingers crossed I'll be going to have a look at that next week! Seems like a pretty good deal to me!

Need to thicken my neck muscles up anyway, ha.

Take it easy,

Buckley.
