Didnt ask me either...

I have a K3 pointy, and its restricted by FI international, rather than a ecu..

Is it better to be have the ecu restriction, or the airbox and throttle fi international restriction..?

Welcome.

Obviously any insurance will be classed as void if you don't inform or lie to the insurance company. It's not just a case of possibly being caught and done for having no insurance (or license catagory). If you kill or injure someone, or just damage their property they will get didderly squat! Would you want to be in an accident with a uninsured driver?

Don't want to sound like I'm preaching, but it a case of treating others like you would want to be treated.

My 50 could do 40 mph so must have been dereistricted. 40 is a huge difference from 30.
I've got no experience of a deristricted 125, but I can see it would be an appealling prospect (e.g. Aprillia 12 restricted, 30 bhp deristricted? I think)
But as said above 108 on the speedo restricted, 138 on the speedo derestricted. It's not a high price to pay for 2 years, esp. when the acceleration is not harmed too much. Doing over 100 is not very comfortable on an SV anyway esp. if you have any mechanical sympathy & more especially when you have only 6 points to play with.

I won't get all high & mighty with you, I must fracture a speed limit every single time I get on the bike, but if you don't restrict an SV which is ideal for it, you might as well get an R6 or R1 & go the whole hog

ok when i got my sv at 18, i had it restricted, ecu

takes 5 mins max to take in and out, same with my dads sv, i rode it 33bhp for 1 year, till my restriction was up, felt like i had a brand new bike,

none of the comapnies i was isnured with asked for proof of restriction thoug i did have it,

dont know if this has been covered already, coudlnt be bothered to read all the posts

Curvy:
  1. OEM kit, carb slides with a hole in them, work fine. Harder than washers to fit
  2. FI international kit, washers under the carbs, also work fine as it's just like having part-throttle on all the time
Pointy:

  1. OEM fit, ECU restrictor, absolute piece of pi$$ to fit, works fine with no problems reported. Replaces the stock ECU under the seat. Do not allow your stealer to keep hold of your full power ECU when they fit the 33bhp one.
  2. FI international kit. Avoid this one, it restricts airflow but does not compensate with less fuel, makes the bike run badly and can foul the plugs up. Find an OEM one on ebay instead!

Stu, it makes sense to derestrict a 125 2 stroke as they run so badly restricted you might as well be on a 4 stroke.

Unfortunately manufacturers are making it harder to derestrict them, IIRC the TZR you simply had to turn part of the powervalve upside down.

I don't think power restriction does anyone any good personally. I know how far to turn a throttle, and if I decide to turn it a bit too far and hurt myself then it's my problem.

I suggest you restrict the bike!!

If you got hit by an uninsured car driver then I can imagine the posts that would appear on here! and the names that the driver would be called! Its pointless in all the abuse that we give to car dirvers if we as bikers are just as bad!

Just my opinion anyway.

You know how far to turn a throttle, but as I new rider I didn't.

Get it restricted - apart from the insurance issue if you made a mistake and hurt someone you'd always blame yourself. The sv is a great bike to restrict, it's really not noticeable.

As did as a new rider as well, or at least I did after I fell off and hurt myself a couple of times. How else you learn hehe.

The restriction is most certainly noticeable, after all you are lopping off half of the power, however bike is still nice and rideable. You can get away with a lot on a restricted bike it's a good laugh.
