I vaguely remember it... but had forgotten. Thanks LC

A bit too close to the Bala 'bike pulling / inspection / ticketing' centre (AKA Bala Police station) for a large group of bikes to stop maybe? There are many layby's on the left alongside the lake on the A494 if we need to regroup.

Last year the feds were pulling bikes en masse outside Bala police station, so best we go through Bala in dribs and drabs rather than as a big group. I avoid Bala at weekends as a rule.

On the Barmouth route - it might be that if we'd be getting to the Ponderosa too late, we could cut out the bit through Wem and Whitchurch and go straight to Ellesmere from Shrewsbury along the A528 (turn left at Harmer Hill). This is a very twisty road, and it's terrific fun, unless you're in a car sat behind a tractor, that is.

Shell - the number of people I've seen wobble up that road, all over the place - it is a tad twisty, but certainly OK for the average rider, and as long as you take it easy it's perfectly OK. I mean, even I can do it without falling off, and I'm fairly hopeless. Does anyone else on here know the A528 from Shrewsbury to Ellesmere? If you look at it on Google Maps it looks straight, but tee hee it really isn't In fact the straight bit from S'bury up to Albrighton (that's the north Shrops Albrighton, kwak, not the one near Wolverhampton) - which is all of a mile, maybe less - is the only straight bit I can think of in 14 miles
