Once you've got most of the air out, and good pressure at the lever, zip tie the lever back overnight, in the morning just crack the nipple open, which should purge the last of the air out

1) Fill the fluid reservoir right up.
2) Open one bleed nipple on one caliper and let the fluid come out through a pipe, fill the reservoir up as necessary. Don't thrash about with the brake lever, just let the flow of brake fluid carry the bubbles out. It's slow but I promise it's working.
3) When no more bubbles are coming out, just fluid, open the bleed nipple on the other caliper, keep topping up the fluid in the resevoir, allow the fluid to flow. Leave the lever alone.
4) Once we've done this, then you can give the calipers a tap with a spanner to try and dislodge any air bubbles, nip up the bleed nipples and have a squeeze to see how it's doing.
5) If it's still squidgy, not you can employ the Squeeze lever, open nipple, close nipple, release lever method to get any last bits out.

Promise it'll work

Jambo
Cheers jambo that's really helpful, but I can see a hole in the plan after the initial opening of the nipple nothing appears to come out (regardless of touching the lever). I might nip down and try what you've said with the confidence of your advice to settle my impatience this time though

So it needs to be squeezed all the way back before I open? (could have been going wrong here). I was going; open, squeeze, hold and close.

Yes, to start with, that's how I found it.

mate held the lever against the bar, whilst I opened up the nipple. Gets through a fair amount of fluid to start with, then settles down, which is why you need to keep an eye on it.
Otherwise it's back to square one

Cheers. I might attempt to take a video and show you what it's doing....it just seems to blurt out fluid then nothing....

If it blurts it out, then you need to close the nipple, then squeeze again.

That's why its a 2 person job. Sorry

You've still got air in the lines or air is entering the system somewhere then.

The only thing I can advise with brake bleeding is patience.... two pairs of hands also makes life easier to.
