Student life, been working since I was 12, paper rounds, behind counters, computer work etcetc, now sainsburys, had 1 day "sick" and I'm now 17.

I dislocated my toe at home thought I just hurt it, + I turned up for work even though I was in great pain, they looked at it and said I've gotta go up to A+E to get it sorted, cringe..

They weren't too fussed as I showed up for work, but it depends what you do. If I was ill I wouldn't go to work as I work on produce, however I would alternatively ask if I could do something which doesn't involve working with exposed food.

No, and as I said my wife runs her own small business so I'm well aware of what I'm entitled to and how my employer is legally entitled to run his business as I do help my wife with company issues just pointing out what a pain in the ar5e it is for myself and my fellow employees that have children of school age to arrange for child care/holidays in the summer school holidays so that the boss can go on a month long jolly with his family and the fact that he doesn't have children (through choice) makes it difficult for him to comprehend the issues that face parents.
Without looking I think the law states that if the employee want lets say a week off then the employee needs to ask two weeks before the holiday date and the employer needs to agree/decline within half the length of the holiday period from the date of the request, if that makes sense.

Yes Rowdy, it does Much depends on what your holiday rules are but there is no automatic rule that just because you can't take holiday when you want means that there is a constructive dismissal case.

i shall see how my boss reacts next week if my blood pressure has not gone down and the doc signs me off like she threatened to 2 weeks ago.

don;t the kids break up in July?? could you not take the last two weeks in July - the kids down here break up in July not sure about the rest of the country

Aye july the 20 something which leaves a week for the 5 or so employees with school kids to fight over who gets the week off and who doesn,t.
More concerned about childcare than summer holiday though tbh.

I'd get a death stare, but I rarely take time off sick anyway so doesn't bother me. I drag myself in and make everyone suffer

been working where i have for the last 6 yrs in that time been sick about 5 days at the most 99% of them due to hang overs ,but i had my bike accident in january this yrs broke my colerbone been in for the op (now a bionic man full of steel )lol my boss is ok with it as he knows in not lying about it another 2 months off and ill be needing a new set of riding gear !!! lol ,maybe he would be different if i had a cold or a virus and off for a few weeks ,there is nothing worse than being at home not being able to doo nothing all day and not being able to drive ,how do these benefit cheats who stay home all day and do nothing live ???? cant understand them
