Am I the only one that has a very brief sweep of fine sandpaper over new tyres? Just as a slight glaze-buster.
Think I'll try the avon storms as my next tyre, apparently they're soo confidence inspiring. I'm pretty pleased with my current dunlops tbh though. Feel sticky (not that I push them too hard) but bet they wear fast. what's average wear?

Always wear your ferkin leathers.
If it took a chuck out of your toe sliders, rather than a scrape, maybe you actually just kicked the top of a large stone. Sliders make your toe more likely to touch down too as the toe of the boot is wider on the outside.

I can't be bothered with juggling gear changes/braking and lifting the balls of my feet back onto the pegs between each gear or corner, and I'm tall so instep on pegs is most comfortable, and I've got big feet, so my toes are down all the time.

I still **** myself every year about March time when the toes touch down on dry roads for the first time since November, then maybe the second time too, after that you just think tight corner = toes down.

ahh could have been! looks like 2 or 3 mm has gone.

I jumped loads on the second one, first I was like oops - second completely took me by surprise as it was on a slow uphill round about. But it will have been the camber that caught me out. I get the feeling if it happens again I'll still poo myself! not a fan lol

I remember that "crap, what the frig was that" feeling when something unexpected touches down. After a while you get used to when to expect it.

I'm sure you'll be getting pegs down, knees the lot soon enough. Just don't let your shoulders then head follow.

I seem to move my feet about loads when going for a blast, constantly changing gear and dabbing the rear brake. Toes also depend how far along the peg you place your foot. Some advice given to me was to hang my foot off the peg an inch or so so that toe touches before the peg. Doesn't catch you out as much then...

Edit: Seeing your pics looks like actual road surface rather than a large stone.

Yep agreed that looks like road rash to me as well.

my first bike (not an SV) was set very low and had a rubbish lean angle. I remember the first time i leant it over and the pegs scraped i almost filled my leathers with fear.

I think that has made me feel very nervous now about leaning my SV over too much.

I know it will go over at a decent angle and I talk myself through what I need to do when I am out on my bike but physically puting it into practise never happens as I always remember my first scraping experience.
That is why I am so slow on the twisties.

Just take it a little easier next time, but at least you know what to expect when you lean further. I took a bend quite tight on my cg once when a bunch of bikers came round the other side of the road completely distracting me. I was leant over so much and not looking where i wanted to go and nearly went into the curb. I was lent way over my comfort zone, but i still had grip left, and think how skinny my tyres are compared to yours.

haha I've already had the knew down shortly followed by back etc. (shortly after face into car). not nice.

I move my feet about lots too instead ogf hanging off I seem to like lean, twist and push on the pegs all at the same time.

Beware for friday binky I am a slow rider, this was on roads I know very well. 'What's round the corner?' is a massive killer of my speed.

It did feel a bit prolonged to be a stone, but louder than I'd thought it would have. Hate to think what it'd do to skin

If you've got toe sliders and don't stick out your knee, then binkys was a good tip. I'd be scared of pegs digging in to the tarmac or something.
