Dunno, the RD400 I've got here is a piece of pi$$ to work on because it does need it more often.
The result of bikes being less maintenance intensive seems to be owners who can't find their rse with both hands.

So first service is quite important.
Suzuki recommend mineral full stop with the SV

There is a filter in there after all !
Do you think motoring journalists who get new bikes from manufacturers run them in and change the oil on time ?!
And when the manufacturers get them back and sell them on they still give the warranty !!
Intersting topic and 1 im sure could be debated for hours!

And they don't pay for them either

First service is THE most important. I'd go to anywhere that could provide a stamp. I'd ask car dealers if need be :P

I thought you could retain the warranty provided you use genuine replacment parts / recommended parts? Or is that just services after the first service?

Anyway, if you can change the oil yourself and filter, do it. Use a genuine suzuki filter and some good oil (HG are doing some great semi-synth oil at the moment for not alot of money according to many on here!). Whilst it may be tempting to let the bike run for another few weeks, it certainly isnt the best if ideas. I didnt realise how much crap comes out with the first lot of oil until seeing the pictures on here!

Do it as soon as you can. In the mean time, maybe not use the bike so much if its gonna be a long wait, if your not so confident at changing the oil.

Is there another place you can take the bike too?

No it doesn't, I called Suzuki UK to check.

Matt is correct, just make sure you use genuie parts.

Just wanted to add....this is wrong. It does no invalidate your warranty. They had to remove that rule due to competition rules. Plus, I've services it myself all the way through, kept receipts, written down all work and have decent tools etc. I have since had warranty work done with no problems.

When I brought my SV I asked my dealer whether servicing the bike myself using genuine parts would invalidate the warranty? Guess what his reply was? Somebody is telling porkies? In this context, I would rather believe you as at least you're only trying to help and don't have a monetary incentive behind your advice.

Just look at your owner's manual or a Haynes. Anyway, to save you the trouble they are:
1st - 600 miles
2nd - 4000 miles
3rd - 7500 miles
4th - 11000 miles
5th - 14500 miles
