i still don't buy the scotoiler idea, i had one on the SV and it was nice not having to worry about lubing but made a helluva mess even after i turned the flow right down, lubing every 300 miles is once a day on a weekend away, 30 seconds to lean the bike with a mate and spray the chain, worth the lack of crap going everywhere and yes, i'm a tart, i spent 3hrs yesterday washing/polishing and waxing the bike to protect the paint through the summer, i don't have to ride it every day in all manner of crap so i'd rather keep it looking smart ![]()

whats this all about lubing everytime you go out???????
why do you need to do that, it only need lubing every so often, you could go abroad and back and not have to lube just lube before you go. I only lube mine every few weeks and it stays fine, my dads been lubing every few weeks for 35 years |

I missed a month or slightly more of lubing and cleaning and my chain stretched like a mofo. Didnt have to tighten much through winter, but just about six weeks of neglect and i had to adjust alot. Maybe two and a half turns each side. I wont be leaving it for that long again.
Used to always use castrol chain lube - i think after doing it this weekend with white spirit and then old oil, i'll stick to that. Probably a lot to do with daily commuting through all weathers/seasons. |

Also the "grit gets in there" this, whilst it sounds likely, I've never seen it, the forces involved would mean anything smaller than a stone isn't going to make any difference, the main purpose of lubing is to keep the seals (o-rings) in good working condition, as said I've never seen a sprocket ground away by grit in lube, but funnily enough I have seen plenty that are knackered and dry, whilst of course looking clean....... ![]() Cheers Mark.
