Hi folks,

Thanks for your replies and advice.

I just got back from the DVLA compound in Tottenham. It seems that common sense still exists in our hallowed institutions! I called them this morning and then went over to Tottenham. There was no aggro and they accepted my tax disc without quibble and let me have my bike.

I inspected it closely and asked them how they picked it up (they stick fork things either side of the tyres and lift). No damage, thankfully.

They do check the tax against the DVLA database before they remove a vehicle. They reckon it takes 24hours or more (more, in my case) for it to be registered in the database hence it was impounded.

So, it was a big ballache but thankfully a happy resolution.
Luckily it was a free lesson this time!

Cheers,

Jason

A great result mate.

Well done.

Also a lesson to others not to blindly accept charges.

Doesn't surprise me, even for on-line applications. Keeping a database that is accessed by so many people live would probably slow it down to snail's pace so it makes sense to have a static searchable copy for councils/police/others that is updated overnight.

Good to hear common sense is not completely dead and buried these days!!

Good result, but I would still be seeking compensation for their mistake, at the very least for your travel costs and time off work.....

Wasn't entirely their mistake though. Not enough time between issuing the disc and checking the register. They had a bike with no tax disc and no record of it being taxed.

Law of sod. Glad it got sorted.

Well if everyone did this then hopefully they would begin to think twice before impounding. Friends of mines experiences with impound yards are nothing short of criminal, I wouldn't pi$$ on them if they were on fire!
