The only thing to note here is that some insurers do insist on the certificate as a condition of insurance- so if you don't have it, you can be screwed despite the fact that it's not a legal requirement.

Surely they need to specify it upon/before covering you?

Like i said in earlyer in the post around 9/10 and i asked the talk to a manager because i was getting mixed answers from the people taking the calls saying they need a cert and some saying a dyno is not classed as proof and some saying that a dyno is fine . all the managers i spoke to said the only form of Proof they would take is a Certification or a DYNO print out with the Bike REG. no other form what so ever .

and they dont all want proof before they insure you some just need it in the event of a claim .

You can get a bent certificate on eBay for a tenner.

Yup, but have you read all of your small print? Most people don't.

I really wouldn't advise you use one of those. You could get done for fraud if you tried to use it in the event of a claim and they're not just going to take your word for it that the restriction is still in. I guess if you wrote of your bike so it couldn't be tested, they'd just look for the restricted ECU part number.

As Dave numbers said, your licence only entitles you to ride a bike with power output of <25KW, which translates to 33BHP (at least I think that's how it works), so if you're riding a bike with 35BHP, you're not legal. You'd have to be able to prove that the dyno was over reading.

Which insurance company is this that's making you show proof? How much are you paying (if you don't mind me asking)? Just wondering if it's really worth staying with this company as it sounds like they'd do everything possible to get out of paying for a claim you make. MCE didn't ask me for proof (or a mate on his gixxer, old one to be fair ). IIRC YC was with Carol Nash when he was restricted. They didn't ask him.

850 pounds FPTF

20 years old
3 points SP30
0 ncb
1 Claim for total loss

If you fit a restricted ECU, then you don't have to worry. Suzuki sold the part as 33bhp and if produces more it's their fault and not yours.
