Another quick update whilst I've got internet access. The roads heading south were great and have been sight seeing since stopping at Monaco, Neice, Marseilles, Avignon, Millau, Carcassonne and Perpignon. It was nice to meet up with a couple of .orgers in Monaco (cheers Binky and Matt). Got into Spain yesterday morning and am following the N260 currently about 400 km in. As someone else has said it's a fantastic and varied road so gonna follow it west and see where it goes. Budgetwise I'm actually under at the minute at 45 euros per day and things in Spain are a lot cheaper so that may even come down some. Have uploaded a few more pictures to that same link as before and will try and update again when I next get a connection.

When we went we did almost the entire N260 as far as where it meets the N145 when we headed north for Andorra, but we were heading east-west. I'd say if you can't do the entire length of the N260 then the bit from where you are now leading to Sort is a must at the very least. Embalse de Yesa is worthy of a few photos if you decide to keep heading west. But avoid Camp Victoria in Jaca if you have to pitch tent in that area, much better out there for the money (we got desperate!) (passed a site near Gavin that looked good from the road).
Sounds like a great trip so far and some cracking pictures you got already. I'm jealous! |

Made it to Portugal yesterday and currently in Porto. Followed the N260 to the end in Jaca then some nice scenic roads and a bit easier of an easier ride south west towards Madrid where I stopped for a couple of days. However, I have to a give a special mention to some roads between Segovia and Madrid which were out of this world:
Segovia, Rascafria, Miraflores de la Sierra, Soto del Real Highly recommend it if anyone heads this way - it climbs to about 1700 metres, perfect tarmac through lots of tight twisty sections and some nice places to stop and explore on the way. Gonna be in Portugal a few days and then it time to turn around and start heading home. L3nny, hope you enjoyed the B500 through Germany. STRAMASHER was spot on and it's the route I took. |

Yes I enjoyed the B500, cheers for the heads up on that one. Unfortunately the chain snapped on my mate's bike the day before so we had to enjoy it from a Ford Focus hire car.

Sent you a text mate. I am in and around Porto today so give me a shout if you want to meet up, myself and a friend are doing some of the touristy things too so it should be fun

Hey Sayani.
Pleased to hear you're getting on well mate. Still sounds like a truly epic trip. Look forward to more photos and stories of SV heroics when you get back. ![]()

Well, I made it back at the weekend and have just been catching up on sleep and food and more sleep. The route I took back from Portugal was not as interesting in terms or roads (although there were a few exceptions) but there were still some good sight seeing opportunities along the way. I kind of rushed back in the end due to a few problems - problems with my bank and my debit card and a few faults on my bike which I couldn't get fixed on the road - problems which looking back perhaps I shouldn't have worried about but after 6/7 weeks I may have been looking for excuses to get back. Overall though the trip went really well and I enjoyed every minute of it. The feeling of complete freedom, being able to choose your own direction each day, to see so many beautiful sights without having to worry about a schedule and to get away from the daily routine and grind of working life is something I'm grateful to have experienced. I'm glad I did it just to prove to myself how easy it is to just get up and go and know that I'll be able to do more of these trips in the future. Thanks to those who took an interest in the thread and responded or got in touch. I'm going to rest up for another week, get the bike sorted and then decide where's next.

Really glad you enjoyed yourself, it's a shame I was working the day you were around... oh well, next time coffee is on me.

Yeah, shame we didn't get to meet up or that I wasn't more organised to give you more notice. Next time definitely or if you head this way just give me a shout.
