I lent my then 20 yr old ex-girlfriend my GSXR1000 K2 just to see how she got on with it. She was riding a Bandit 650 at the time and had just got off her restricted period. She was fine on it, mainly because she didn't go mental and treated it with a bit of respect. I suppose her watching me do mile long 120mph wheelies taught her what the bike was capable of doing if she was stupid enough to try

On stock 32,000 mile old suspension my CBR600 F-W still handles well enough to stick with bigger bikes in the middle of the fast group on trackdays.

I sometimes lend it to my mate who's a trackday instructor with No Limits, and he tells pupils that when he needs to he'll overtake them and lead the way. They look at him and the tatty CBR and some almost laugh, but they aren't laughing when he comes past.

SV naked tops out at a very optimistic 125 on the clock, the CBR will go all the way to about 160 on the clock. I have a 98 CBR trackbike and have owned two SVs, the CBR is by far and away the quicker bike. It feels easier to ride than the SV as well, handles better, brakes better, and is comfier.

The throttle goes boh ways, so ride it as slow or as fast as you like.
your all missing the point of what i was getting at and tbh if your all just gonna be top trumping it then there's no point me trying to explain what i meant either.

A bike is only as fast as your right hand IMHO. It will feel quicker than the SV, but it will sound as though you are revving the nuts off it compared to a twin.

I agree with you on this one mate ... On a mix of roads & keeping around the speed limits the SV is just as good a ride ... [ nowhere near as quick as a cbr6 though !! ]

I think you got the 'trumping' responses by impling the SV is quicker

I have had a CBR6 & a CBR thou in the past and I do prefer the V twin riding experience'

+1 (although i think you've actually seen this in the flesh at the GM)
the CBR is faster than a naked curvy top end restricted, but that may have purely been aerodynamics on the motorway trying to keep up with non restricted rather than being faster restricted lol

you will have to rev it lots to get a reaction though, if you have a go

I don't think he implied anything - he said "it's probably quicker". Given he also said "for the road" I assume he meant it'll be an easier cruise as you won't need to rag it. But tbh, it isn't quite as big a difference as that, at least not with the fuel-injected CBR Fs. I gather the carbed F4s (99/00) are pretty similar so I would expect the CBR in the OP to have the measure of an SV around low revs too.

Re: CBRs being 'wobblish and soft' - they have more adjustable suspension than the SV, so maybe it was set up wrongly, but it can certainly be much better than the SV. Mine is adjustable for preload/compression/rebound both front and back.

I find the SV 'keeps up' with the sports 600's up to about 90-100 mph after which point top end power takes over and it just gets left behind.

I know what you mean about it being quicker "on the road", for ability to just twist the throttle and pick up speed, but if you are in the right gear on a CBR it's quicker on paper and the SV though it won't get left behind, will need to be flat out to keep up. The only reason it does keep up on a rideout is because once you get into three figure speeds on the road the CBR rider has to back off. On a track where the rider can use top end power the SV wouldn't stand a chance.

That an offer? I had a CBR600F years ago, but I'd quite happily take yours for a spin just to see what a restricted bike is like, I've never ridden one.

*has a mosey over to the peaks rideout thread*
ooo your going! so you're totally welcome to have a go - however, as mine is injected, i have a throttle stop so it turns 2cm - you may find it really weird - it seems to be peoples favourite game - twist the throttle and giggle lol

hindle - you're from this area - why dont you come to the peaks rideout in sept and have a go on my restricted CBR 600?

as already mentioned, its your right hand thats the boss here not the bike....a new rider could jump on an hayabusa and ride safely...as for a comparison between the 2 (cbr and sv) id have the sv all day long, after owning over 50 bikes in 26 years, theres nothing finer than a v twin'..inline 4's are boring, need to be revved flat souless bikes need i go on lol
