What is karma?

Karma is a Sanskrit word that literally means "action". The word is used to refer to volitional acts as well as the forces that arise from these acts. The idea of karma had existed in ancient Indian philosophy before the time of Siddhartha Gautama, and it became an important element of Buddhist philosophy.

The Hindu and Buddhist concepts of karma are quite similar, although Hinduism makes a further distinction between different types of karma, such as present karma, latent karma, and future karma. In the understanding of both thought systems, the law of karma describes the connection between actions and the resulting forces, as follows: wholesome actions lead to wholesome states while unwholesome actions lead to unwholesome states, individually as well as collectively.

In my experience it does kinda work that way.

Put out good vibes, get back good vibes. Its the way of the cosmos i think. call it karma or treating people as you would expect to be treated, or call it a horse.
i dont care for the name (tho i say karma all the time to describe it) but i do try and put the good vibes out.

i too have seen too many nice people suffer for no seemilngly good reason but then i wonder if they did something terrible that i just dont know about and now its the time for karma to come bite them in the butt for it.

Not really. Good and bad things happen to everyone and I don't see a pattern in all honesty...just everyone gets a bit of each at some point in time!

i believe in doing good cause you want to do good, not because you want good done back to yourself.

let me try and explain how i see it.

the philosophy behind karma (imho) is flawed because you expect to recieve what you dish out....if you think about it thats quite a selfish attitude.

if on the other hand you do a deed just for the sake of it, without even a thought about the returning consequence then surely that is at a higher level of spiritual awareness.

maybe im wrong but fundamentaly my day to day routine revolves around not upsetting anyone or anything around me.
It helps me relax knowing that my vibes are peaceful and without conflict.

Peace & love
brother & sisters
