Read somewhere recently that you can sort it out online, and this option gives you 21 days to return the old one?
Might help to look into that.

It's the photo that lasts 10 years. So if you send a new photo in with your change of address, yes it would last another 10 years. But since it costs £20 to change the photo, but change of address is free I wouldn't recommend it

Ah, I did get it though the post but for the life of me I can locate the paper work, so I'll sort this tomorrow. I need to get my passport renewed anyway too, so I still need to get a photo done.

If you do decide to take this advice just remember which licence is which and don't make the mistake of producing the wrong one to a copper like some bloke did to me a few weeks back. They have an issue number on them and if you produce the one that you have made a signed declaration was lost/stolen you may find the copper decides to be a "****" (to quote YC) about it. Given just about everything these days can be cross referenced against computer records producing dodgy documents at the roadside really isn't recommended.

I was actually meaning the DVLA's profiteering to be ****-like behaviour!

But for a copper at the side of the road, I reckon if everything else is legit then they should let folk off with a warning about it. Out of order when the fine for a slight clerical error is worse than doing something totally stupid or dangerous.

Our Traffic lads have been doing lots of people for driving with expired photocards, no one seemed to realise that they have to be renewed. Fortunately Mr VT and I only need to renew ours next year.

So thats a heads up to everyone out there, check the expiry date on your licence, some police are not very sympathetic to the 'I didnt know' story.

Erm, they sent me a reminder, so they do!

I think there must be a bit of an issue with the reminders! I have spoken to numerous people recently who haven't realised that they needed to renew their licences, obviously some people are getting letters and other aren't. Anyway, mine isn't due for another 4 years.....
