Absolutely the wrong thing to do, just ask any of the guys who wheelie for a living. There's a guy online who goes by the name of Veggie Dave who'll put you right on this - he's an instructor at Paul Gower's wheelie school.

Or steering head bearings.

I find that hitting the limiter brings the front back down ha... OK, I don't do that, silly tbh.

Best way is to learn some throttle control and either get to a point where you make it hover and not just come up and smack you in the face or so you know where the limit is on how hard you can accelerate without the front coming up.

Only if you're very very good at it. The problem is oil starvation, if you ride the bike with the engine tilted back for to long the oil pickup is in the wrong place and it runs dry. If it's for less than 30 seconds you've nothing to worry about.

Guy on here was doing some really long ones, he didn't have any bother until he did some with the oil level low.

So if you're going to do it make sure oil is on full line.

Have it your way, bucko, but I prefer to listen to the guys who teach it and do it for a living.

There's reasons why you shouldn't chop the throttle, search around online for Veggie Dave and he'll be able to explain in more detail and with more conviction than I can be bothered to muster right now.

Nothing wrong with chopping the throttle...done properly . Chopping doesn't mean you are using it like an 'on off' switch...might start off that way though haha.

I'm not the best wheelie person in the world but can do them ...and even make them look pretty good

Some wheelie schools teach 'off the throttle' , some teach 'with the clutch' ...which one is the correct/better method?

Personally, I think using the clutch is the better method but then again, some folks(including some of those who teach it for a living) would disagree.

That leaves us with 'each to their own' perhaps.

As for landing a wheelie smoothly, all you need to do is make sure you are back (gently) on the power as the wheel is about to touch down.
Now, just like 'chopping the throttle', 'back on the power' doesn't mean, 'give it a big handful of throttle'

Cheers
Ben
