No, first thing to do is adjust the clutch. If you can't get it adjusted right then something is knacked, if so the first place to look is the lifter.

Adjustment and lifter check requires no gaskets or removal of anything sealed - do it first.
What do you mean by 'adjust the clutch' are you saying bring the clutch out more at the engine side of the cable so it engages sooner, because the handlebar lever engages as much as possible already.

Which part is the lifter?

Prescisley what my SV did when I over filled it with oil.

Check the basics first

Oil Level
Chain Tension
Clutch adjustment

Its bound to be one of those and each one is a 5 minute piece of p*ss job to sort out.
Cheers will do, are we talking make sure the chain aint too tight. Its a tad loose if anything

on your curvey if you have the standard chain guard still fitted, should be a little label that tells you how much play you need in the chain. IIRC it should be 25 - 35mm. You dont want a slack chain as it might jump the sprockets and a chain thats to tight might well snap.

I'm not 100% sure on the 25 - 35mm as I havent had an SV for ages, so best to double check though.

I didnt bother with slacking off the cable, I just undid the nut and tightened the screw and then tightened the nut back up. Works perfectly now, its most prob the same thing as what you got
