They are at the more extreme end of the metal spectrum.
![]() I like to relax in the bath with a nice book and blast out Nightwing, a truly inspired album. ![]() Metal is like a drug, you start out with something nice and quiet like Iron Maiden and before you know it, you are scampering around following Slayer. I found that I wanted harder metal, more extreme with a bigger emotional response. I started the hard stuff with bands like Cradle of Filth and Emperor, but they were a stepping stone to bands like Burzum and Marduk. Along the way I would hang out to Dark Throne, Gehenna, Akercocke, Enslaved, Dissection and Immortal. Bands like Opeth and My Dying Bride were what I used to come down again, to chill out and relax again. ![]() These days I have expanded my tastes to include the extremes in other things musical. If it is Dance music it must be hard and fast, I really got into Trance a while back. I was the only Goth on the Dance floor! Actually, that is not true, The Goth scene has a load of Industrial music that has roots in Dance and metal. Bands like Front Line Assembly spring to mind. ![]() |

They have a few breaks, and the odd guitar widdle, but its not really that kind of music, I don't think it would go with the overal feel. Jaynes post pretty much sums up how I got into heavier stuff!

I am nearly 40 and have been in to metal since I was about 14. My music collection is quite extensive, going from Alice Cooper to Zyklon B. One thing I really hate though is cheezy Hair Metal, that carp from Poison, Kiss and Motley Crue. I always hated Glam metal, it sucked dead horses!
There is another band I am not so fond of though, but that is because I got embarressed at one of their gigs when I was spotted by a girl from my Biology class, while I was at Uni. I could go into more detail, but I am too ashamed... They were not even metal! ![]() Actually, there are a few I have seen that I should probably not admit to, but here goes. Genesis at Earls court in the early 90s. Little Angels for their last ever gig at the Royal Albert Hall. Thunder, twice and Ugly Kid Joe in Plymouth. I am so ashamed... ![]() |

I really got in to Jesu a while back and they are awesome, very dark and doomy, but with an edge that I find strangely uplifting. This is another good one.
![]() Another band that I just adore are Neurosis, who are frankly amazing. Try this one for heart rending, bleak and fantastic music. ![]() Other bands I have really got to love recently have been Godspeed You Black Emperor and Mono. Both bands are unusual and have a heaviness that is just awe inspiring. I think they were given the genre of Post Rock, but that does not mean much to me, I just loved the soundscapes they create. ![]() The Mono album, One more step and you die, can invoke tears in me when I am feeling dark! ![]() |

Warthog,
You are the most non metal looking metalist I have ever met. You look more of a Gary Barlow fan. ![]() |
