What does it drop to when capped? When do they cap? Do they cap for particular websites/programmes?

I don't want Virgin Media getting in the way of my porn and pirating addictions!

We are in a quite rural area and 3.5kms from the exchange but BT should be upgrading the exchange to ADSL2 by the end of March 2010 apparantly. So we will still be that far away from it and not getting full potential but it should improve at least

You ever thought about getting a dongle Stretchie? If you can get a signal where you are then it may be worthwhile.

I am surprised that nobody has yet suggested an ex7000hd as an alternative to paying Virgin, not that I would advocate putting your own box on a virgin line as that is very naughty.

Get 50Mb and there is no capping. only cost me £4/month more than I used to pay for 20Mb.

<Virgin pedant mode>There are no caps on virgin broadband. they reduce your bandwidth as they think it is unfair of you to use what you pay for. So technically not a cap as that would be to shut off your feed once you had consumed a certain amount in your charging period.</Virgin pedant mode>

Just what I was going to say - in my experience from using newsgroups, it seems that once I have downloaded ~4GB worth of stuff in a day, the download speed drops from just over 2000kb/s to around 500kb/s. The speed returns to normal once it reaches off-peak hours i.e. overnight. (I'm on their 20 Meg broadband by the way...)

I am curious, please pm me what one of these boxes is and what it does.

Beware all, VM are sneaky *******s.

Everyone on 2mb was automatically upgraded to 10mb several months ago paying the usual £19. This is called the super M or super medium package, a package just for those freely upgraded.

Sister rings them up, they conned her into an upgrade to the L or the large package which is also 10mb but for new customers only, they proceeded to charge her the old price of £25 when for new customers its £20 after intial promotion.

So they are bumped up her price £6 and she has gained nothing other than a tweak in traffic management policy.

They can expect a mouthful tomorrow.

Have you spoken to them yet? Just interested to see what they said cos that is a pretty nasty trick!

Playing devil's advocate for a minute though, i reckon that is more likely a case of an individual seller/operator at the call centre trying to make their monthly figures look better.

I've had pretty good & fair service from them in the few years I've been with them. When Virgin lost Sky One etc in the dispute with Sky a couple of years back I rang to complain/cancel and they knocked £20 off my monthly bill for life, plus I managed to get the 2nd box in our house upgraded to a V+ box for nowt. All those Sky channels are now back too so I'm pretty glad I stayed!
