I also had a long break from bikes, about 16 years and got back into it with an SV in 06, like you it seemed like a sensible decision. After 6 months and 10K miles on mine I changed to a GSXR1000 K6 as I'd always wanted a gixer since they first came out. The difference between the two is staggering, goes, stops, handles amazing. However after it became harder and harder to excercise restraint for me, always wanting to get that little bit more each time I went out so I sold it after 12K miles. It was so easy to ride fast. So I went for something less but more rounded that required more rider input and ultimately for me a more rewarding ride. I don't regret getting the gixer at all. If I still had it my licence or worse would have been injured.

My advice would be to go for the blade and get it out of your system whilst you have the chance. Enjoy it.

Cheers guys, I know my own limits now however fully admit to being keen to show my biking prowess in the past and used to enjoy taking my 350LC and my Gamma on one wheel riding trips as much as two!!!!

That was 20 years ago though and now I enjoy riding because I enjoy it, no matter what weather, what the reason and actually used the SV every day for commuting even when it tipped it down despite having the car on the drive so can certainly see me using the Blade daily which I guess has a cost impact but whats the point having a bike if you dont use it????

My philosphy is that any vehicle is dangerous if you use it stupidly and yes of course you can do more damage on a blade vs a SV if you ride like a nutter day in day out, I hope that I wont have a personality transplant if I get one but right now I guess it is the 'want but could never have' that makes me keen to get one but I do have the worry that I wont enjoy riding as much on something so powerful so will def take the advice of taking one out on a test ride and see if it really is all I wanted it to be. I did used to ride some big bikes when a lad so I remember the big differences between power and weight and handling etc. but would still be good to try another (and I may even try a GSXR 600/750 too as I love the looks as much as the blade TBH)

I still have a couple of months to make the decision (as I need the full yrs NCB before doing the deed) so a couple of test rides is the perfect 'filler' in the meantime
