XP x64 is microsofts ginger stepson. I regret buying it.

Just switched from xp today, so much swifter than vista, and 10 x more professional than any linux release, it just works.

The problem I have is that for some backwards windows style reason I cant use the Work key for this computer so I can only use this copy for 3 days.

So do I:

A) Go back to good old windows XP or
B) Get Windows 7 Home retail box (£92, so not bad?) and install that?

Cheers for thoughts...
I can't believe you work in IT and are considering paying for an OS.
I've just set up windows 7 alongside xp on my lappy, barely used it yet but it's not bad.

(BTW I thought your system would still make use your 4gb in XP but just wouldn't acknowledge it in the operating system)

I, er, bought a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate a few days ago and installed it on my Macbook Pro. It's much quicker and much nicer looking than the version of XP Ultimate I was using before it. The installation is almost as easy as OSX too, none of the horrible blue menus as per XP.

The installation they've improved 10 fold, there's no(or less anyway) 'give us loads of information into our slow input fields then we'll reward you with having to wait around for 32 minutes while it half installs...oh and you can install the drivers yourself sucker'

It's slightly more 'user friendly' which I find less tech friendly but command prompt is your friend.

Yea Dave, for some reason the work Key doesnt like me! So I think im goin to order Windows 7 home for monday. To be honest I dont mind paying the money. At least i know its all mine and entirely above board, plus its only the cost of 2 new 360 games, id say for the money you get a LOT of software!

So im off to order it. ha ha. Im sure I wont regret it

I did try the work copy first as I say, and will be running it till my copy comes (on monday I hope) but that runs out in 3 days, sigh.

lol sorry deleted it incase you didn't want to mention, go past there more or less everyday - plenty of plebs in corsas
I was just asking as if you're expected to support windows 7 machines I'd say it's not unreasonable to ask for them to provide you a working copy (that's what I did) think it shows initiative (albeit mine ) imo.

yeah, I'm looking forward to it - hoping it'll make a real difference to braking. Cheers for the offer, hopefully (in a good way) won't need it as I think I've managed to talk the local garage into letting me borrow his ramp, tools and expertise to oversee! thanks though, i'll let you know it goes.

We will apparently be sticking with XP for a couple more years as LAN ranger dont work with 7 yet... You ever used LAN ranger? Useful bit of kit when you have 700pc's... but like most software is a pain in the ar$e at times. So anyway, I wont really be supporting 7, so I cant really pull that one ha ha.

Well, you sound like you have it all in order. Best of luck with the project

Balls, that's that out the window . windows 7 isn't a fan of roaming profiles either IIRC. No, is it free? (probably not).
