normally if the details are wrong they cannot pursue the ticket as you don't own the car that they have put down. The same as if its the wrong time or date. However do not take it to a desk in the police station as they will try to change the details on your copy.
I would contest it - court cases have be thrown out on less ( i've also had tickets discounted because of incompetence)

I have just noticed that he has done the reg wrong on the ticket, he has put 09 instead of 59 !

Does this make the penalty invalid ??

Cheers
So some poor barsteward is going to post on here about the unfairness of it all in a few weeks' time ?
If the reg. is wrong, the paperwork won't be winging its way to you any time soon, will it ?

I understand yer point of view as in they are enforcing the law but they pick and choose as far as i can tell.

My bike was vandalised by drunk chavs causing about 500 quids worth of damage. The police did nothing no investigation no attempt to find the criminals (i insisted they fingerprint the bike but he arrived 2 days late and therefore it was invalid). All i got was a letter in 1 million and one langauges asking if i needed support. O and to add insult to injury afew cops knocked on my door about a week later and said yea nowt we can do suck it up.

Yet when i get caught for speeding at 2am on a country road on a first offence i get smacked with a fine points and higher insurance!

Add to that my family has been robbed twice and nothing was ever done (once we were actually in the house!!).

So yea i broke the law once and abide by it all other times (i pay for my dvds etc) yet i could go out tonight and find drunk teenagers who the cops wont touch with a barge pole.

Tragic really....

I wish it was as simple as you make out.

One thing I would like to make clear. It's not because cops dont want to find the people responsible for robbing you or vandalising your bike, it's just that it is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Fingerprints aren't exactly as good as CSI et al make out - 75%(not an exact statistic before the statistic police shout at me) the time the prints taken from a crime prove nothing of evidential value.

I totally understand your point of view and I can guarentee you that us regular beat/response cops get fraustrated with it too.

On the other hand, traffic officers are dedicated to traffic offences. They will turn up to other emergency situations but primarily they are to enforce traffic legislation. Plus, many travelling criminals, possibly travelling into different areas to commit robberies, housebreakings, deal drugs etc are caught through simple things like speeding offences or minor construction and use offences.

Dodge, duck dive and roll as much as you can.

If paying fines meekly when a clerical error makes punishment illegal is a manly thing to do then call me a mouse and keep your macho bullsh*t to yourself.

Maybe but i also remember a beat cop trying to accuse me of dangerous driving and breaking the law by filtering. All the time i was in shock and being treating for injuries before going to hospital. I was very intimadated and i think the paramedics were on the verge of telling him to sod off. Later the other driver admitted liability 100% on my claim against him. Add to that filtering isnt illegal last i heard.

You can see why my opinion of the police isnt high.
