There are no fans in mine.
The problem that many plasmas suffer is that when they are displaying a bright image (ie white screen) and its quiet you will here a buzzing but its hardly anything.

I have a Panny plasma. Not noisy, you'll only get burn in from bright screens left on for a length of time but I've not had nor have I seen an LCD which matches mine for quality

By the sound of it plasma is a great buy, with the only downside being it's power consumption?

Aren't manufacturers phasing out plasma (with the help of EU) over the next few years because of the power issue?

Cheers for the replies!

When i bought my first HD TV i went LCD cos of the screen burn, but since thats been removed from the issue i always thought plasmas gave better image quality. Power consumption might be an issue how much extra cash spend on juice are we talking (like 30/40 quid a month?). Its on most nights for about 5 hours if that helps!

As for other questions my xbox was a launch one until i upgraded to an elite about 1 week ago :P. So i should be able to run the TV in 1080p for gaming correct? 1080p is the main driving force for getting this other than the screen size and image quality!

From what i've read on LED's its just an LCD with a LED backlighting system instead of flourescent tubes? Plus i can only find the samsung ones that are really expensive. OEM LED is different i believe and not in TV form yet???

Neway i'll go look at some LCD's for comparison to be through!

My 50inch plasma consumes about 300W on average and around 490W peak. If you leave it on 8 hours a day every day for a month it costs me about £20 a month to run.

A 50" LCD would use around 7-10 pounds a month if used around 8 hours a day but I'd rather pay 20 quid a month and not have to suffer the terrible blacks and fake colours of a super efficient LCD screen.

to work it out use this formula (Watt * hours * price per KWh)/1000

£50-£60 a year

(based on 340W Plasma TV cf. 80W LCD TV 10p-12p per kWH)

So which one of your figures is wrong? or are you paying 26ppkWH when everyone else pays 8-12ppkWH?

Im on economy 7 so i get raped

Day primary units used 852 kWh at 27.95p
Day secondary units used 2005 kWh at 16.85p
Night units used 1350 kWh at 5.71p

so we have got 494w x 1h x 17p / 1000 = 0.08398 = 8p
8 hours a day / 30 days in a month = 240 hours
240 hours x 8p = £19.20

and that's not including standby power it uses

and that's not including the 27.95p rate either
