Always report a crime like this. The police might not be able to help you directly, but they need the information.

do some gardening in the back (yeah buy new tools).
Dig out a 10ft or so hole for a new pond, sheer sides mind, then cover it over until you can get round to finish it but leave one or two tools in the middle of the cover (nothing get out of a hole useful, and wait until you feel like getting back to work..say...when you hear the screams)

All the work should keep your mind off your loss and a nice new, deep, pond will help with tranquility and all that.

Here's one for you:

Men in van drive down a road, steal lead from one garden and a radiator from another drive (I know, I just hadn't got round to taking it to the tip )

Neighbours call cops. Cops stop van, still full of loot. Cops take occupants of van to station. As first guy released, "can I have my van back?" "yes, here are the keys"

Van and evidence driven out of police station yard.

Yep, seriously, you couldn't make it up.

evil thats just crap, to get them but not have them got :@ that would wind me up even more.
It isnt a police bashing thing I really dont want it to turn into that, Im aware they've got to have the t crossed and the i's dotted otherwise they end up preventing anything ever happening to these scum.
It is rotten thought to have been what feels like slightly violated by these 9ricks is a real sickener, but i bet you the police get the same bad taste in the back of thier mouth when dealing with the dirty fecks.

Pikeys, should all be shot.

Leave something laying around with obvious scrap value and wire it up to a 20kv flyback transformer? One we did as a prank for some kids down the road was basically a claymore mine with dogsh*t instead of shrapnel. Blow sh*t up

Lots of useful advice on here about what to do if you ever catch them, none of which i could possibly condone..... but do definitely report it. You won't be wasting any police time, just some helpful civilians so go for it. Besides, although I agree your scrap might be gone by now they might get careless with the hammer. It's just the kind of thing the scum bags might hang on to and keep in the cab and if they do get a lead from the house to house resulting in a stop check it only needs one tiny bit of evidence to bury the gits....

Yep, like RH said, report it.

If everyone says "I won't bother reporting it" then the cops in your area won't know there is a problem with this sort of theft. You would be surprised at the amount of times we get a called passed about a "suspicious van" in a nice residential area and then when we stop it, they turn out to be the biggest scumbags imaginable who are wanted for all sorts of things.

When I was on my plain clothes secondment in the summer we had one such case where the uniformed cops stopped a van after being reported as suspicious and ended up clearing about 50 odd (IIRC as I didn't report the case) agricultural vehicle thefts from all up the west coast of Scotland. So although some cops might take the attitude that it is a waste of time, IMO, you're not. All cops should know what is happening in their area.
