Do you honestly expect anyone to believe that? You'll be telling us that there is a god and Jesus really turned water into a nice Chianti next. |

Oh yeah, lets make it even more confusing and even more difficult to police while we're at it. I'd like to see the prices of these massively restricted bikes you envisage

I just turned 21, i took my test while i was 20 so i am now restricted for another 14 months.
![]() ![]() 33bhp restriction i think its a good idea for new riders to get used to a bike before they can jump on any bike but its just stupid how once your over 21 and sit your test you can get on what you like and don't have to do the restriction period. it should be for everyone or no one imo. but i dont think it should be for 2 years, 2 years is a hell of a long time ..... maybe 1 year would be ok. but it is a stupid law.

well look at it again. Under the age of 18 is the same pretty much as it is now, the 33bhp for a year is fine and after that any 600 non-sports will fit in under 80 bhp until 21. It's not difficult and will weed out all the people who find it too complicated until an older age. You'd be suprised how many people wait until 21 just to avoid 33 bhp. |

Age 51.
Passed in '78. No training back then. Bought a bike, crashed it several times then took a test. Once you passed you could buy whatever you wanted, cash permitting. I voted yes to the 33bhp limit but purely from a psycholoigical point, i.e. it makes new riders think about the power available. I'm with Fizz in that I think its education thats needed, as well as training. Stick someone in front of a tv and let them see the results of being stupid, then train them.

Yes, I do expect people to believe that I would do that. I'm not speed junkie, I don't crave to be the fastest and I certainly don't need all that power at the moment whilst I'm still young and inexperienced. Before people start spouting stuff about the fact that they started off on a huge bike and they're fine, that's you and I'm me. I don't know how I've offended you with my clearly blasphemous opinions but I'm sorry to have caused such offense. Clearly my lack of judgement in not wanting enough power is my downfall. |

I still think you would try it full power and realise it's not that scary. It isn't. fact you're thinking about it like you are shows you could handle whatever.
Personally I think 33bhp just prevents people killing themselves in first week, or dropping it on car park of dealership like this guy

I'm 30 years old, CBT passed Feb 2009, passed my restricted test in October 2009, and slowly working my way through my 2 year countdown.
I figured I would save money and be on a bike quicker going the restricted route, as I had my own 125 at the time, also time off work and lack of cash prevented me from doing DAS. Didn't really save much money as I had to pay to get the bike restricted anyway. IMO, my current 33bhp bike can quite happily exceed the speed limits so I don't see it as a big deal... |
