Also if you are ever in doubt about the site you're on (shouldn't be but still), if you enter a wrong user name and password a genuine site will reject it, a scam one almost certainly won't.

If you look at the email although it says paypal etc you will also see the senders email address, usualy a hotmail or yahoo account. By clicking the reply button instead of the fake paypal it will have the hotmail account as to who it is being sent too. This is an easy way to spot it.

Banks, intermediaries, online shopping accounts etc, never send you an email to 'remind' you to update your details - why would they? If you try to use your account, having logged in etc under your own steam, they'll ask you to update you details then, and only if it needs doing. The reason scam emails are still so prevalent is that there still enough non-thinking people out there (men and wormen) to hoodwink

Sure they do, paypal recently wrote to me as my card was going to expire and asked me to log in and enter details of a new card, the link was in the email too. I did it via the site login anyway.

ok ok you lot, the GF is not thick you cant call A at alevel and distinction in music tech thick ..... she just dosn't do paying over the web and is not very "computer literate" only had a paypal for 6 months and only had a card that you can pay with online for about 6 months as well so she is not that aware of this stuff ... and i have grilled her about it so leave of with the thick jokes please.

IE8 did not block the site nor did avast, opera does but she does not use that (my laptop so dot want all her passwords on opera so make her use IE)
