No, BS.

Mileage is absoltely no indication of safety or fitness for purpose. It is entirely the owners responsibility to ensure their bike is maintained and safe.

You can have a 2000mile bike that is f***ed. And a 200,000mile bike that is perfectly roadworthy.

Maybe road worthyness is a valid point but the original post was about mileage correction i was pointing out the possible pitfalls doing it. Do you honestly think someone who does this would remind themselves what the real mileage is in case it needs a service and would you like to buy the bike off them when it comes for them to sell it on?

Only mileage that matters is every 15,000 and I'd say they have same chance of remembering that as any other owner.

Buying bikes you look at condition, if it has been neglected for any significant time then it is obvious.

If an owner told me "i've put some new clocks on and can't remember the mileage" then I would buy it exactly same as any other. You don't know a previous owner of any bike has not done this and fact that it has happened been lost in time anyway. There's no way to verify any bikes mileage, look at Rictus' bike, 153,000 mile before first MOT. Very easy to put new clocks on and hence "low mileage" bike....

I have also bought write-offs with front ends smashed up and no clocks at all. Just make sure price reflects what you're buying.

Limited mileage........ I thought that was the price of petrol....
