Come to think of it, I'm doing Glasgow to Basingstoke in a few weeks which is going to take quite a while. All I'm doing is sticking some tunes on.

I ride up to the Glencoe Massacre in the Scottish highlands, almost without touching motorway, takes me 10-12 hours and I arrive feeling less tired than I would have done if I'd given myself rigor mortis on the motorway. Riding A roads is just riding a bike, and I can do that all day long.

Fair do's. I know that rigor mortis feeling. I had to come off the motorway one time cos I couldn't feel my fingers and back was killing, and the task of motorway riding is so mind numbing.

stop, start, overtake etc much more fun!

You get to see the country you live in too, on the same routes that were once travelled by horse and cart. Villages, churches, thatched cottages, old pubs, stately homes, lakes and rivers, even riding through a sh1thole industrial town like Corby, and noting that Corby is a sh1thole for future reference, is more interesting than counting junction numbers on a motorway!

But then I always liked Geography and UK History.

When I go for a long motorway ride (2.5 hours isn't that bad) I change lane as often as possible (not like a numpty though) i.e. don't sit in 2nd or 3rd lane, make out your in France and always go back to 1st, keeps you alerts and gives you something to concentrate on. Wear ear plugs as engine noise gets monotonous. Make sure you don't rush the petrol stops, take 5 minutes to eat/drink something. Watch out of police cars.

Don't believe it's spring up north, it only means it's just broken zero degrees
