Wouldn't use a tankbag, scratches the paint. If I need to take a lot of gear, I'll take the car.
I've had an Oxford tankbag for 10 years now can't remember which one but it had a lifetime guarantee and 3 layers that could be zipped together, used it for commuting to work as well as weekends away. They're great on long runs, reduces wind buffeting. Filling it up obscured the clocks.

"keep my laptop more or less on hibernate all the time. Worth the risk? something else to consider as I'd want to play it safe."

Hibernate isn't the computer on, as it just saves the session and turns off, if you left it on sleep then you may have an issue. (shouldn't move a computer around anyway if its on or in sleep mode, high chance of hard drive failure!)

I cant think the magnets are strong enough to affect the computer anyway, unless your putting them up to your computer which i cant imagine you are! Not something i would let put you off imo.

Have a look at the bagster tech city.. I have one and worked really well with the tank cover. It has ruck sack straps behind the clips. The downside is that my arms were a bit short and the bag wouldnt quite fit my xps 16.

I now use a kreiga us20 on my pillion seat with a neoprene. You can get a tank adapter which may fit the us20. I can try at the weekend to see and let you know.

No magnets in both applications and the us20 comes with a should strap and you can expand the capacity by adding the us10 .

Well, test results are in.

Rode from Barnet to Silverstone, and my god it was aweful!

First thing to note was I had to sit with balls up to the tank the whole way becuase I also had my topbox fitted (on pillion seat). I probably could have gotten everything in the box but I wanted to test the backpack.

In the bag was my laptop, ipad, and some random items like clothes and pen sticks and stuff.

Didnt help that it was mostly slow stuff, filtering etc.

I reckon 90% of it was due to my awkward body position the whole way due to the box. Next time I'll try without it!

Will also play with the straps a bit, was so hot in my leathers I did minimal adjusting just so I could get going in the breeze!
