How many people does a bus hold? 60? How many people could that lane convey in the 15 minutes between buses? I'd bet it would be more than 60.

From my own experiences, the traffic became worse overnight when the lanes came in, when the buses went on strike a few years back they suspended the lanes for a day and the traffic instantly eased again.

Niave ? With respect, get real !!

Buses in brum and solihull are a joke, massively overcrowded, too infrequent etc and that supposed to be an attractive alternative???

If buses were coming past on these bus lanes every 5 mins I could almost support it as it would be a quicker solution for commuters, but they don't, it's expensive, unreliable, slower, less safe ( in terms of crime), so how would that benefit the average commuter?

Simple facts are, if another 10+% of car drivers got up on Monday morning and decided to use a bus to work the system couldn't cope.

It just dont work, doesn't take a mensa member to understand that.

Colchester was one of the first towns to have a go at bikes (motorised and pedal) being allowed in bus lanes. This was several years ago and it worked well, so well that they recommended it should be like that everywhere. Seems that others haven't taken any notice.

but here in Colchester all bus lanes are for bikes too, all the time

In Bristol they let bike's in the bus lanes, think I saw two buses in them in the whole time I was there. 'round Hereford, there aren't any, so it's a none issue.

And if we got rid of them, and each of those people drove in to work every day, nobody would get anywhere.

It's a gradual thing, but the infrastructure has to come first. To get buses every 5 minutes, the ones every 15 minutes have to be filled. To get those to be filled, they need to get there quickly. To get there quickly, they can't be stuck in traffic.

Get everyone on the train, and out of cars and off busses. More room to get out on the bike

I've just recieved and watched the DVD of my offence and it's crystal clear; I'm going to pay the fine in the next few days so that the amount is reduced to £30.

Just thought I'd let you guys know the score.

P.S. My bike looked very sexy on the DVD haha :P
