Hmmm, Big wholesalers locks...really?

Is it really the best idea to secure your couple of thousand quid bike with something made in China or India.

The most expensive chain is about £130 retail, so less the dealer margin of 40% thats £78 trade price, less the wholesaler margin (at least 60%) so thats a cp of £32 at best, wholesalers margins are going to be more than likely 60-75% so you are securing your £2000 bike with a lock that including material costs is worth around £30 quid

Thats why thieves have a go, because if you secure your property with cheap far eastern "security" then it makes it easy for them, plus it doesnt matter how hardened or how big the chain is it will never stop a Battery operated angle grinder with a diamond cutting blade fitted.

The only thing worth spending on your bikes security is a decent insurance policy and a tracker (if you really want it back after some scrote has ragged it to death)

Pretty sure if I hadn't had the D-Lock they would have been away with it. It's now got the D-Lock and a large Oxford chain on it. Best to have both of those on it than not....

Obviously not a waste of money as my bike is still in my posession (touch wood).

Plus I do have a decent insurance and a tracker...

Good luck with the Tracker...

Looks like you are down to relying on the insurance.

I dont use any security on my bikes, dont even bother with the steering lock. If it goes it goes.....its not the end of the world!

Why waste 200-500 quid on security and alarms that can be easily removed, my insurance excess is £75, my bikes are agreed value with documentation and my no claims from the last 10 years are protected for 2 claims per year.

I wouldnt insure an SV650 for anything other than TPFT there are so many of them around and not exactly desirable to thieves
